I know my story must be so common but im really needed some encouragement right now. I hope someone experienced and or people not so experienced but pushing through can give me some good words or advice!!
Dont mean to be whiny or complainy but ok; I guess i was flirting with being vegetarian before i knew what flirting was! Then got interested in Alicias book read a little here and there. Then it was gifted to me and im reading it ravenously! By poking around the internet I somehow came accross PETA. And with the combination of that knowledge mixed with info from The Kind Diet & other sites, I have both my feet in Vegan! I love this idea, i am becoming very committed, i understand why not to eat meat or dairy makes so much sense! But its like i cant read fast enough! I am becoming frusterated because it takes SO much time to figure out what in the heck some of these ingredients are MOST of the ingredients, then shopping, then preparing ugh I feel like im in the kitchen all dayy. And i have 2 children and a husband! My husband is a manly man and he keeps losing weight because of my decision to go Vegan.
Who has time to get this right from the get go? I feel like someone handed me a cooking book in a foreign language, and i am learning to cook all over again with new ingredients while learning the language.
I weeded out dairy slowly and just switched everything ya know from Milk to Soymilk from Cheese to vegan cheese from Mayo to Veganeise, from Ice cream to Soyice cream, from Sour creme to tofuti etc... I used to cook with a meat and veg every night, so I figured ok easy until i figure this whole thing out ill use soy 'meat' Soy turkey meat, Soy Hamburger, Terriaki Tofu, Soy sausage etc.. then i get to the part in the book that says NO SOY every day?????????? And reading about all the GMO soybeans?
If you got this far thank you for readingsorry its so longand if you can helpthanku!
You are doing better than I. I started vegetarian about 3 months ago an I'm reading Alicia's book. I haven't went all out vegan yet, can't seem to give up the cheese. I think the thing is, and I may be wrong, but just as before you shouldn't eat say, red meat everyday. So I think the thing about not having soy everyday is the the same. You just shouldn't have it everyday. Also from what I have read you can get enough protein from veggies and grains. I make a lot of the same dishes as I did before but I use more veggies and leave out the meat.
I am lucky my boyfriend is very supportive and I do all the cooking. He still eats meat when we go out or when he has lunch at work.
