I am trying to go vegan and started yesterday. I went shopping yesterday armed with my new vegan shopping list. I was trying my best to read and decipher label and did pretty good. However, I got what was supposed to be a vegan cheese for the pizza I made tonight but when I looked at the label it had milk protein (casein) in it!!! The cheese was right in the middle of the soy cheeses so I wrongly assumed it was dairy-free. I am so disappointed in myself, but I have learned a lesson and will start fresh with my next meal. Anyone else feeling a little disappointed in themselves?? Reading labels is difficult. I am gonna have to find out what all of these terms are so that I know for the future.
Don't get upset! The first step is starting to find new things. I bought some organic cereal last week. After eating it for breakfast, I was bouncing off the walls and then crashed. Couldn't figure out what was going on. I looked at the label and it had sugar in it. It was one of those shopping days when I wasn't paying such close attention to the label. When I find a food product that is really good, I stick with it. I usually stick to brown rice, quinoa and veggies. But, I'm not perfect. Even Alicia talks in her book about sometimes grabbing a bite of cheese. The hardest time is when I'm at my parents house even though they have gotten so much better when it comes to food, especially after my dad got a pacemaker and had triple-bypass surgery over the holidays.
Thanks girls! I do feel much better. I am going to be more conscious over the labels and have even been doing some research. I am still and probably will always be a sugar-aholic but I have cut out artificial sweeteners since they are just pure evil! I am glad to have a place like this for advice and support!!!!
