So I know tomatoes are considered a nightshade food and we should limit our intake of them, but its really hard for me because they are my favorite thing! Giving up meat and cheese (and smoking!!) was so easy but the tomatoes im having a hard time with. Can someone help me understand how our body deals with tomatoes and why we should limit them in our diet??

Here's an article on the subject:

I haven't totally given them up by the way, but my current goal is to just have them occasionally.

and it just ain't tomatoes......white potatoes, eggplant and peppers (and tobacco!) are also nightshades. I do what Nicole does - just have them occasionally - only seasonally at this point, which means pretty much none until July/August -and keep in mind that often the foods we totally love and can't do without are the very ones that can give us bad effects - thats why we crave them! its like being a drug addict, you crave the thing that hurts you.....better tomatoes then crack but something to think about!

I feel like giving up tomatoes is really hard too! I've been shopping at my local farmers' market and I don't know whether to get them because they're in season and its natural, or if I should skip them...
