Pregnant and craving meat :-P

So I became fully vegan back in January and I found out I was pregnant. I thought it was perfect timing to start this new lifestyle to begin with so what a great surprise! With my last baby I craved meat all the time and I ate it when I wanted it. But this one I'm really trying so hard to stay away from it. The first couple months I felt fine on The Kind Diet and then right when that two month mark hit I started to get very nauseous about vegan items. I didn't want them at all and the thought of them grossed me out. I was craving cheese more than anything. So I gave in....then I started to crave those hearty meat dishes again. Is there any advice that other pregnant mothers can give me. It's really hard to make things have that same satisfying flavor lately.

Awe... im sorry to hear about all your cravings... i know id go crazy. But congratulations on having a baby! Yay.

Ok.. have u tried Field Roasts?? Cuz they are Amazing and i think would feed that 'meat' craving.

I made a review of it here: http://theveganverdict.com/2010/04/27/field-roast-lentil-sage-quarter-loaf/

Also, try and make something with nutritional yeast. I know when i randomly crave 'meat' dont know why... i realize its probably vitamin b12 my body is wanting... so i make something with nutritional yeast and viola! it totally hits the spot.

I just made these 'vegan' ricotta toasts that were really yummy! Try it out...

Let me know if that helps.

Thanks Jazz!!! My friend also said that she is in love with the Field Grain Roasts. I'll have to get going on that. We do have them at our Wholefoods so I'll have to make a special trip. I live in Hawaii so we are super limited on some things. I do have nutritional yeast, but I only used it in my tofu scramble so far. I should probably try it on something else as well. And your recipe looks nummmmy. I will try it out. Thanks a lot! :)

I had the same problem and I ate a lot of the Gardein products in the beginning (at around 10 weeks where I started to get the cravings, too)! Also, in the recipes section, I posted a recipe for miso gravy that you may also like on the Field Grain Roasts. I remember I was feeling so guilty and angry at myself for having these cravings and didn't want to tell anyone about it, particularly family members, since I'm always the 'vegetarian spokesperson' around them! No need to feel that way, though, since I hear that it's actually quite common among us prego-vegetarians. Good luck with everything and your baby will thank you in the end if you kepp up with your current lifestyle :)

Thank you KK. I will check out your gravy! Yeah I realized there must be something I'm missing that the baby really wants so I'm trying to pay attention to that. lol.

I admittedly know nothing about pregnancy, but I just wanted to chime in to suggest making the cheezy sauce from veganomicon with your nutritional yeast. It is so creamy and satisfying. I once had a meal of mashed potatoes, field roast, and roasted asparagus all covered in this sauce. It's totally hearty, comfort food.
