I want to reward myself for being so good on my recent vegan diet :-) and decided to make Alicia's Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups. Made my way to the one place I know of that sells graham crackers here in London, only to be dismayed to find that the "Original" Nabisco Grahams are made with GMOs (it's the law here in Europe that these must be announced on the label, so any imported foods that contain them have to be relabelled). I have visitors coming over from the US this summer so please can anyone tell me of an organic graham cracker that my guests might be able to bring me as a housegift? From somewhere easy like Trader Joe's or Wholefoods - I don't want to send them on a massive treasure hunt. Ditto for "Original" Triscuits which I was SO excited to see as they were one of my childhood FAVOURITES - made with GMOs. Do either of these brands have organic lines or do they just rest on their laurels because of shabby labelling laws? :-(
I HATE that we don't require that kind of labeling here in the US!! It's so ridiculous! I don't buy graham crackers that often, but when I do, I just look for organic - I've gotten them at Whole Foods before, as well as other places. I know Paul Newman's brand makes some, others I've gotten have been random brands. I don't think I've ever seen any by Nabisco, but you never know, they could be out there. I don't have any recommendations for Triscuits though, sorry! :(
Thanks for your help Nicole - I didn't want to put anything on my "wish list" that doesn't exist. Shame about this Triscuits, but to be honest if I hadn't seen them I don't think I'd have developed a craving! x
Thanks Katherine! I never thought I'd need to spend so much time reading labels!!! I have to wear reading glasses lately, and getting them out while shopping makes me feel even more old than usual. One thing about living so far from where I grew up is that it makes it easier for me to be good, not being tempted by all the less-than-desirable things I loved growing up, but every once in a while . . . :-)
Just keep thinking about how much good you're doing, for yourself and the world - you'll get through - hope you have a great visit!
