I thought stevia was a great "natural" sweetener, but lately I've heard about how alternative sweeteners can make you gain weight even though they're calorie free, so is stevia one of those that can make you gain weight? Also I've noticed weird sounding things in powdered stevia like rice malodextrin etc. those don't seem like they would be good for you. So if anyone knows about stevia I would love to hear about it

I think Stevia is considered safe; what you've probably been hearing is how honey has more calories than sugar and agave syrup can actually make your blood sugar spike in a nasty way. Stevia is considered safe even for diabetics. I like the idea of getting the pure stuff from Trader Joe's. It's a plant, so go for it!

Thanks so much for that! I just picked up the purevia brand and it tastes pretty good. Have you tried it? I usually use the liquid stevia because its just stevia and water bur need packets for on the go.

Yeah, I just read in "The Thrive Diet" by Brendan Brazier how stevia has no effect on the body's insulin like sugar does. Interesting! I bought some to use in my coffee with the So Delicious coconut creamer....yum! (I tried giving up coffee, but this is the best I can do for now.) :)
