Hey everyone. I'm visiting Chicago in October...it'll be my first time. My boyfriend and I are going to get tattooed, the shop is on Belmont & North Lincoln. I'd love to try out some great Vegan places to eat (Chicago Diner is a must!), visit some art museums/galleries (we love art...mark ryden, van arno, todd schorr, chet zar, mucha, dali, etc), check out any cool book shops, and see some sights. We'll be at the tattoo shop for most of our trip, so we'll only have 2 mornings and 1 evening to explore. I know the public transportation is great there, so I'm not worried about getting around and we love just walking around different neigborhoods. Does anyone have any good suggestions on hotels, places to eat, and unique places to shop, specifically neighborhoods that are really neat???

hey bailie! i was just curious about the tattoo shop--is it vegan? (if you are familiar with this kind of info already i'm sorry!!!) but what makes regular tattoo ink NOT vegan is that the black ink is made with shellac, which is made from beatles. i just recently learned this on a trip to portland or.

now if this place IS already vegan lemme know, because i'm moving to chicago on july 1st and i'd love to check it out:) i've been wanting a tattoo for a loooong time...

have fun!!!

hey landree, it's hard to figure that out sometimes because tattoo ink companies rarely list the ingredients in their inks. shellac is very common in "do it yourself tattoos" as well as in writing/drawing ink, but as far as i know, most professional tattoo ink companies do not use it because it doesn't hold up well. you more have to watch out for glycerin in the inks. there's a lot more "is it vegan?" things besides the inks such as the stencil papers, razors, bandages, and ointments....the list goes on.

Interesting to come across this post! I am trying to surprise my husband with a big day trip to Chicago. We live in Indy so I am considering making it an overnight trip. His birthday is in September, so I am trying to find reviews of chicago hotels and stuff. Bailie, where did you stay? Was it nice? And, has anyone gone through that Choose Chicago company to book the hotel? Thanks!

I’ve been using http://www.hotelscombined.com/?a_aid=68631 for a couple years and now find it difficult to book hotels without it. Clean and simple - love the price comparison idea. One suggestion, please make it easier to look for rooms suitable for families and kids.
