As I have always been allergic to nightshades I just wanted to mention paprica was included in several Superhero menus, and it is indeed a nightshade....a sneaky one I just found out about, so if you are looking to avoid nightshades, avoid paprica.
I have also found most people add red and green peppers, paprica, and pimentos mostly for "color" in their recipes. I have become a "superhero" at spotting red and green things in my food :)
I find nopales (cactus) is a good green replacement for bell peppers in recipes, it lacks the flavor, but adds a wonderful texture.
Thanks,
Johanna
What's the deal with nightshades anyway? I know there's a small blurb about them in TKD but why are they "bad"? I can't imagine a week without potatoes, tomatoes, peppers or eggplant. TKD says thry are high in alkaloids but what does that really mean?
I think she mentions that the alkaloids found in night shade veggies can build up in your system and cause inflammation of your joints. so if you, or someone in your fmaily has problems with their joints, it's best to stay away from them. I hope this helps!
