Can I make "boxed" brownies without the egg?

I have a few boxes of brownie mix, and while the mix itself does not contain any milk/egg, it does call for 1 egg. Is there anything I can substitute for the egg and still get to use up these boxes? Thanks!

DON'T USE A POWDERED EGG SUBSTITUTE!!

I have been majorly craving brownies this week, and have tried to substitute the egg with and powdered egg substitute in both box brownies and from scratch. Sadly, both were an EPIC fail. The batter never set (even after an hour baking) and the fake egg made water bubbles all over the brownies. The fake egg worked with cookies I made a few weeks ago, and I was really sad that it didn't work in the brownies.

Does applesauce really work?

I know you can make those boxed brownies without anything but water in them...they obviously will taste different and look a bit strange, but most companies make those products so even if you completely mess up the simple steps, such as leaving out an egg, they still turn out somewhat ok....i'd just add applesauce as a previous post said or try dairy free yogurt.

You can sub 1/4 cup of silken tofu for an egg. I used to do that... tasted the same to me, and even to my meat loving friends.

The ones you cook only with water usually contain powdered egg already. I use groun flax for a substitute. 1 Tbspn ground flax and 3 Tbspn water is replaces 2 eggs. Mashed banana also does the trick :)

I use ground flax too. Works fine in everything I've tried it in including boxed brownies.
