I have been a vegan for 4 months now. After becoming a vegan I felt great. I had tons of energy and was healed from all my stomach problems. For the last couple of weeks I have had ZERO energy. I mean to the point that in the afternoons I about fall asleep while working. I just want to go home and go to bed. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I am just drained! I hate feeling this way.
It could just be detox. You might try some homemade green smoothies and extra raw goodies to help speed up the process so you can get back to feeling good.
Also, are you getting enough brown rice and other whole grains? You need those for energy!
I'm may not be getting enought whole grains. I will up my intake of that and see if it helps. Do you have any good recipe suggestions for a green smootie?
Michelle, congratulations on eating compassionately and healing your stomach problems for 4 months. I have had a lot of the same experience. I have been thinking about it and I think that in the begining I was so excited and learning so much that I was cooking more and eating my greens and my whole foods. About a month ago (I've been vegan for 7 months) I realized I actually felt tired all the time. I was looking everywhere for what vitamins i needed and stuff and then i realised I just need to get back in the kitchen and get back to my exersize program. Now maybe theres some kind of nutritional reason for you, but I think for me it was just that I got a little lazy, then started not getting my meals and gym bag and all that together, and that eventually led to a real energy defficiency. Have you been eating take out or prepared grocery food or having the same thing every day? Have you gotten lax in your exersize routine? check these things first and try finding simple ways to add fresh foods into your day. Ive been having fresh fruits and oatmeal in the morning and iced green tea and in the afternoon and lots of water and im really working on packing fresh healthy lunches and a gym bag the night before. Also, make sure you have snacks to help you get through the after work need to cook dinner phase. Other than that, make sure you're getting iron. Anemia is a common cause of feeling tired. For a big iron kick, try having cream of wheat cereal with blackstrap molasses for breakfast with a little vitamin c. snack on apricots, and spinach salads with strawberries. Good Luck, I hope
Thanks Claire! Now that you mention it, and I really think about it I have slacked off on my cooking some. I don't eat out much at all, usually only once a week, but now that I think about it I'm not cooking as well as I used to. You hit the nail on the head about the exercising. That is one thing that I have NOT been doing. I have got to get back to doing that! Looks like I may be in the same boat as you have been in. I have been having smoothies in the mornings, but they aren't very filling sometimes. I am going to try the oatmeal or cream of wheat for breakfast and see if that helps. Everything you said sounds like me. I was always in the kitchen when I first became vegan, and I have slacked off lately . Thank you so much for your input. You have helped a lot! :o)
For a green smoothie, just do your fave fruit smoothie and add a BIG handful of your favorite raw greens and a tsp. or less of spirulina. You won't taste the greens at all, it will just look strange.
;o)
