So I'm living in a country were almost everything grown comes from radioactive contaminated ground water. And if thats not a people killer - a good portion of the agriculture is irrigated by what they call grey water. It's a fancy name for treated waste water. Now - I recently found a place where I can get some imported veggies but it's rare - and you know everything has been treated with preservatives.

How did I come to learn this? Well I'm producing a doc and sure enough the people that I've interviewed are the same scientists that check the water and food for contaminates.

You should have seen my face when I saw a lab tech checking the radiation levels in a jar of baby food. Oh- the locals also have almost no clue that back in the 1980's the entire countries food supply was unchecked. Anyone remember Chernobyl? Eventually some scientist were able to stop the imports but it didn't happen over night. Anyway - what's a Hollywood boy supposed to do? And - I know I'm not well these days. Six months of living here will do that. And very nice to meet you all. :)

Should I even ask the question .... when are you leaving? It sounds like some major advocacy and education is needed there, but wow, that sounds awful.

Im leaving when I can lock up another full time back home. Home meaning anywhere in the states or at least an english speaking country. OKay- I'd take a Japanese, Chinese or even Swahili. I'll be out of here soon.

The region has a water shortage - the ground water is clearly bad but people need water to survive. What do you do? Drink now and worry later seems to be the choice of the day.

The locals are clueless - and the cancer death rates here are plentiful.

No - it's not. I have brought the subject up during the many interviews but as a sub subject. I'm a work for hire and thats not what I was hired to produce. Also, if I was to go down that road I'm not sure what it would accomplish. Most likely I'd be kicked out of the country or even arrested. I'm a guest here, and have a family back home who is depending on me to provide for them. Oh- my wife is a professional cake maker - designer - you know a person who makes theme cakes - very super cool cakes as a matter of fact - but she doesn't generate enough for me to take risks that would put our family in dire straights. I laid off my DC staff a year ago and my self. The last local discovery show I fielded aired back in December and I REALLY need a job. This is why I'm here and why I'm not going down the real meaningful story road at this time. ~E

Oh- my name is eric galler - not galller. X-tra "l"
