Where can I order dog food?

Hello,

I have read terrible things about Petsmart and Petco. Even though they support adoption of cats and dogs, their supplies terribly abuse the hamsters and birds and fish that they sell to Petco/Petsmart...which are then sold to the public. They also sell Iams, which I have heard is bad.

I cannot feed my dogs vegetarian, my vet is against it. That said, does anyone know of an online pet food supplier I can order from? Can I order directly from Science Diet? Example, doctors foster and smith?

Thanks

If you just search for the food you are looking for using google, you'll get lots of sites that offer it by mail order. You should obviously follow your vet's advice, especially if your dog is on a prescription diet, but Science Diet is not such a high-quality food. It's crazy because so many vets resell it, but check out the ingredient list. There are better quality meat-based and meat-free foods.

Better yet, first look for smaller, locally-run/owned pet shops/stores. I've found a few in my area & absolutely love the one I regularly go to. They are extremely helpful, knowledgeable, passionate...& sell only natural, safe foods & products. Google your city...ask around...post here. Good luck.

Pug Mommy~

I highly recommend Grandma Lucy's dog food if you're going with a meat protein...

Go with V-Dog if you're going vegan dogfood

and try Dr.Harvey''s if you want to go with some other protein- lentils or tofu...

You can find a local dealer of go with petfooddirect.com

Hope this helps!!!

ps- please please please do not feed your little doggie Science Diet or any other "big box" store available food... it is pretty much "doggie junk food"- it is fortified with minerals but- that's about it... I highly recommend a holistic dog food - there are affordable ones available: Merrick, Nutro Ultra, Wellness, Halo, Blue Buffalo, Innova, California Naturals just to name a few!

:) good luck!

Thank you all so much, especially Rachel S for all of the detail and recommended brands. I will try that Blue Buffalo. My little pug needs to lose some weight!

Rachel S,

I give my dog Science Diet and my vet has never said anything about it being bad. Do you have any links that you can share on what brands are good/bad and an explanation of why? I know you mentioned some above so I will check those out!

I was a Vet Tech for a year at Banfield (lovated inside Petsmart) I learned a few disturbing things .

1. Science Diet will always be reccommended by Vets. Science diet pays for most of the Vets scholorships for school, and continues to pay them as long as the vet pushes their products.

2. Most of the animals purchsed at these pet stores have a short life span due to over breeding, mal nutrion and the length of their confinement.

3. I used to feed my dog blue buffalo , but since switching to Dr. Harvey's Veg to Bowl food, I have seen so much improvement in her behavior, she never had any health issues.
