Natural weed killer...

Our yard is a jungle and and we have two cute little puppers who like to run around it. I don't want to use any chemical weed killers (esp. since Roundup and the like are made by Monsanto who are really big into bullying farmers and are the makers of GMO seeds) that might harm my pups and also don't want to pollute water since there's a street drain next to your yard.

I can't afford any books at the moment so recipes and links to websites would be much appreciated. But, then again, suggestions for natural lawn care books would be helpful for later sooooo give me some titles too.

Thanks!

Howard Garret has an amazing radio show and a website "The Dirt DR". He sprays 10% straight vinegar right onto the weeds. It will kill everything so don't spray any shrubs. He says you can spray under a new tree so it won't have to compete with grass. You can spray right up to the tree trunk, but I would be careful not to get too close

If you go on the website you can find out when he is on in your area, or you can listen to previous shows online. He also has an organic fertalizer you can buy or make yourself called Garret Juice.

My mother in law says you can pour boiling salted water on weeds and it will kill them...I have some brickwork that is a monster to keep weed free with all the rain we had this past year....although I have been wanted to try this boiled water method, I could not possibly boil enough water to do the entire brick area...vinegar is pretty cheap ....I am thinking I should try the boiled salted water method on part of it, and the vinegar on the other just to experiment! I'm gonna check out the "Garrett Juice"!

Thank you all very much for the suggestions! I will try that vinegar idea since I have two huge Costco size jugs downstairs. How convenient!

Thanks Tessa! I'll look his site up.

Vinegar works great. Boiling water (I use just palin - not salted) also works really well - just pour either one directly on the weeds you want to kill. The vinegar works best when its sunny, it just dries them right up!
