So, I'm four months preg, and the last two dr. visits I gained like 4 or 5 pounds. (in a month!) I eat so healthy, I do eat sugar, but I'm pregnant! I'm drinking my water, eating vegan. Anyone have any advice? I know you are supposed to gain weight, but at this rate, I'm gaining too much.

Don't stress out Kaetlin,

A glucose tolerance test is a good idea. Some womens' blood sugar goes too high while pregnant causing mom and baby to gain weight quickly.

You definitely want to cool it with the sugar and see if next month you can keep it to two pounds.

Congrats, Justin

Come on! Don't panic! It is normal to gain weight! It;s not too much!
You should expect a 24 pound weight gain, 1 pound per week after the first 4-5 months of the pregnancy. How much have you gained so far?
Listen to youw body! You are a vegan, so I can assume you have a healthy diet...so tha baby gets all the nutrients. If your body tells you to eat, it's propably because you need it.
If the doctor sais you and the baby are healthy there is no reason for you to stress out, and you shouldn't.

Congratulations!!! Please don't get worked up about the weight! I've had three kids, and I gained 40 lbs with each. Okay, I know I know, that's more than you're supposed to gain! But with the first I was super healthy, took kickboxing and yoga, and ate super healthy, still gained 40 pounds. Second kid, wasn't as healthy, still gained 40 pounds. I have some friends with similar stories and am convinced that people tend to gain a certain amount of weight, even if it's more than recommended with each pregnancy. Were you a bit underweight before? Then you would tend to gain more. Keep eating well, enjoy it, and unless your doctor is super concerned don't worry too much about it!! I also had some months where I gained a lot more than other months, so it may taper off next time a bit. This isn't a time to watch pounds, so just do your best and your weight will be fine.

Thanks everyone. The sorbet is a good idea. I'm hoping it's just these two months because at first, I was so sick I couldn't eat anything. I've only been vegan for a few months before I got pregnant. I was overweight to start when got pregnant. I had been losing weight though, in fact over the last few years I've lost a significant amount of weight. This is why I'm freaking out, I don't want to go back there. I think I may have been overeating to try and get the 65 grams of protein in. I realized that i can just eat beans and salad to up the protein instead of beans, rice, tortillas and stuff myself. Also, I'm going to try and do more super hero foods. Thanks so much for the advice everyone!

You don't want to be stressing about weight gain during this time. During my first trimester I gained about 15 lbs. (I was a little underweight before), which my doctor said my body needed. My second trimester was about 10 lbs. At my last check-up I barely gained 2 lbs. At the end, your weight gain starts to decrease, so don't worry. I think my overall weight gain will be about 35 lbs. (maybe a bit high, but they say that if you're eating a healthy diet it must mean your body needs it for after the baby is born in order to breastfeed). We don't trust our body enough! The body knows what to do! Also, as long as you're eating nutritious meals, I don't see the problem with a few extra pounds. After you have the baby you'll be right back to your normal weight in no time, especially with a vegan diet! Enjoy this time and try Alicia's peanut butter cups, if you haven't already! :) Take care and best of luck!
