I'm all about changing the way I eat, lowering my carbon footprint and being kinder to my body but I weigh 100 pounds soaking wet, I have a fast metabolism and as I read Kind Diet all I see is DIET screaming back at me. Doctors have always told me to eat sweets to keep my weight up which just seems ridiculous. How good can you possibly feel pumping your body full of sugar and starch?

So my question is: Is is possible to live this lifestyle without dropping pounds?

Thank you so much in advance for your help,

Leah :)

Remember that the word 'DIET' really means the food you regularly consume, it is only recently defined as limiting the food you are consuming in order to lose weight.

Alicia mentions maintaining weight on p 140. Eat a balanced diet, just like we all should be doing, and don't worry too much about the more processed stuff some of us have to cut back on, ie: pasta, bread, the good fatty stuff like nuts and oils, etc.

Of course you can live this lifestyle without dropping pounds- you'll just have to eat more! I would'nt eat a bunch of sugar and flour and fried crud...no need to eat crap food to maintain your weight at the expense of your health. Organic fruits and nuts, potatoes, olive oil, flax oil, whole grains (natural, not processed) will all help keep your weight up and your health optimal. Some starch in it's natural unprocessed state is okay, and everyone varies on the amount of that they will need. Some people do best on a nearly starch-free diet, whilst others need much more. The more active you are the more you generally need, depending of course on your weight goals- whether you are trying to lose, gain, or maintain weight. Generally speaking, people like yourself that have trouble maintaining a healthy weight do best with a higher amount of natural starch and fruit sugars than the average person.

I have been vegan for 8 months, and haven't lost ANY weight.

I'm actually a little bit disappointed because i eat really well, and cook lots of recipies from Alicia's book. Hummmmmm???

Me too Lora, I've been a vegan for about a year now and haven't lost any weigh. I've been trying to do more raw veggies and greens instead or starches.
