So I've been eating a vegan diet for a week and I've had terrible gas, is this a common problem? Am I doing something wrong? I'm trying to avoid eating a lot of processed foods, although I have eaten some Amy's meals (they're awesomely delish). I'm hoping this will stop soon, for my sake and my poor boyfriend.
I just came on to ask this question! I am having some major flatulence problems too! It is embarrassing! I take a couple of GasX pills whenever I go out, and that does seem to help. Errrr.
I haven't even gone vegan (or vegetarian for that matter) and it's still an issue for me. I've been going dairy-free, and also incorporating some more vegan/vegetarian dishes into our meal plans.
try introducing some high quality probiotics into your day - they, and fermented foods like miso and sourkraut, help replinish the "good" bacteria in your gut and can really help diminish things like gas. google probiotics and read about them - they are your friend! :)
Ladies - this is a phase and it should pass... it's happened with my entire family when they each went veg, as well as my husband and I. If you're still having problems after a few months, then you should probably try to find the culprit - it could be too much fiber in your diet, in which case, definitely take Ann's advice. Going vegan means a lot more fiber in your diet anyway, but once your body gets used to the change, you should see a difference. Rock on for going veg!! :)

I agree, it will pass (no pun intended).
Oh......i'm glad it's not just me. My husband's ready to move out of the house! I'll try adding some probiotic to see if that helps. It's tough being at work too. Thanks for the ideas.

hmm...i see somebody noted that it is likely a phase that should pass but vegans are known for gas:/
try keeping track of what you eat and when it happens so you can tell which foods cause the issue and maybe even take beano.
most of the veggies and vegans i know collectively agree that gas is an issue and it does not go away.
If you're eating beans and cooking them yourself, try skimming off the foam. It really helps.
I've had this problem more recently as well. I think almond milk and ice cream have caused this in my case. I notice it as well when I eat a lot of garlic.
