all possible detox symptoms?

I was an avid meat and dairy eater as of a few weeks ago. Until I started researching whaling and animal cruelty, I watched a documentary called Earthlings. Well let's just say after a mild depression, an anger towards society, the meat industry, labs, entertainment, and a severe wake up call, I decided to go Vegan. I spoke with my Dietician and she was concerned about what I was going to eat instead of the diary and eggs, like if it was healthy or artificial? Anyway I gave up meat and eggs, still eating cheese and even some products I find have milk and eggs in the ingredients, so it's hard. But eventually I'll get there. I have had more bowel movements and headaches. I'm not sure if it's because I'm lacking nutrients or what but nobody has had headaches so far. So nice to have people that actually are doing the same thing as you. The bonus thus far is the easy weight loss and cleanliness feeling in your intestines ( not bloated or full) So far so good!
Hiya
I've been on my vegan journey only for a few days and I've noticed I'm getting a couple of ulcers in my mouth...has this happened to anyone? I'm not experiencing any other symptoms, i feel great otherwise! can anyone clear this up for me? :)
Hmm your guys' posts make me think that perhaps that is why I am breaking out! However, I am detoxing from meat, not dairy.. yet. Tomorrow I officially start vegan. However, most of today I ate vegan.
Oh and my symptom has been headaches and sleeplessness. Hence, writing on the forum at nearly 3am!
I had most of my symptoms in the first two weeks after going vegan. Mild constant headache (not even bad enough to take aspirin), umm, going to the bathroom after every meal, acne...that's pretty much it. I feel fantastic now!
Congrats and hang in there...you won't believe how good you can feel! :)
it does vary - as you can see- for everyone!
it sounds as if you may have an issue with dairy so i would suspect you may see an increase in all the stomach problems you have been having the past few years. If you actually have a sensitivity to the dairy and that is what is causing the problems, taking it out of your diet will worsen the symptoms - its really interesting, its like being a drug addict: it gets to the point where you feel crappy and the thing that is making you sick will temporarily make you feel better, but in the long run is making you sick. A vicious cycle.
I recently stopped wheat and soy after being vegan for 20 odd years, and had detox of feeling exhausted and digestive problems and headaches for about a week, and then it took another 10 to 12 weeks before the symptoms I was having - the stuff that caused me to realize I was sensitive to soy and wheat- to go away.
Be patient and hang in there , it will be so worth it in the end and I bet your digestive problems of the past few years will improve vastly over the next three months if you go vegan!
Esperanza -- you may be up in the middle of the night because, with a cleaner system, you are more sensitive to things that didn't affect you as strongly before. For instance, since going vegan, any kind of caffeine after lunchtime will have me awake all night, even decaf! Just take a look at what you are eating and drinking after midday. I was surprised at the difference.
Also, I can tell when I eat dairy as stuffy nose and body is congested.
Hi Everyone! Some advice here from a fellow detoxer with sensitive skin cough::acne::cough ... I broke out HORRIBLY because of a combination of going off birth control and going vegan. I already used an organic chemical free skincare line, so I had already been through THAT detox skin-wise a couple months prior. The only thing that worked to clear up the "detoxing breakout" was a cinnamon/nutmeg/honey mask but it worked CRAZY well. Mix a teaspoon each of ground cinnamon and ground nutmeg with a tablespoon of honey. APOLOGIES to those who don't use honey, I don't eat it but I was desperate here--maybe there is a substitute you can finagle) Apply it to your face and let it sit for 30 min. (Its going to drip like crazy so doing it while wearing something not valuable and before you shower is my advice.) Then rinse off with warm water. The next day I promise you will see a difference! My skin is glowing now and the breakouts are almost completely healed in just 48 hours. As for the other symptoms, well....lets just say advil and positive thinking have been my friend to get through the headaches/flu like symptoms!
I am blowing my nose constantly...the mucus is driving me nuts and I have a tiny dry patch in my nose....please anyone that had a runny nose how long does that last? HELP...I also have some baby acne developing on my once flawless skin....I don't mind that but this runny nose is irritating...what can I do to help this?
I've been doing the vegan thing for about a week and a half, and have lost a couple of pounds and feel free of my sugar addiction (!) but I do feel like I'm detoxing. I have been feeling sleepy earlier, and today I felt like it was hard to catch my breath, which I believe was a bit of anxiety--the same feeling when I used to have panic attacks a few years back. I'm ready to ride this thing out, though! I love feeling like I'm more balanced and in control, and like I'm making good choices for myself and the animals I love so much.
