I have been a vegan now for about 3 weeks (was a total meat and dairy eater prior and went vegan cold turkey) and have MAJOR detox symptoms! I am glad that I am doing this research because I totally thought it was the diet and that my body wasn't adjusting well. I had no idea that detoxing could cause such symptoms or that you would even go through detox at all. I have been having mild, constant headaches that come and go throughout the day, stomach cramping, acne, feeling dizzy and lightheaded, feeling spacey, today I experienced a strange pressure feeling in my head, ear aches, a lot of gas, no energy, tiredness, you name it I have it! Despite all of these horrible symptoms, Im really enjoying the diet and just waiting to reap the benefits of it.

Hey Angela:) Make sure you are eating enough and drinking lots of water...up to a gallon a day to speed the detox up:)

Oh my goodness Angela. I hadn't realised I was detoxing until reading your post...and I'm not even 100% dairy free. I still eat a little cheese. But I've been having this weird runny nose. I say weird as I have allergies and it's, sadly, normal for me to be stuffy and have a runny nose but this feels different...yet lighter than usual. I also have had lightheadness and dizzy feeling, I get occasional achy feeling in my ear the past week or so...not constant, just off and on. I've been noticing a lot of gurgling in my stomach, too.

You know though, despite the odd feeling runny nose...my allergies haven't been nearly as bad as it usually is.

Leslie Hello Dear...I have been a complete vegan for 4 months roughly. I had that horrible runny nose symptom....lol....I stuck thru it and I am very pleased with Veganism....it lasted for about two weeks. I posted on this thread if you look back some. Just a heads up around the holiday I ate one granola bar that read no milk ingrediants on the bar, but when I called General Mills the said it says on the box that it may come in contact with milk product. Needless to say I was alerted of this error due to the same mucus that came from my nose. It kicked me back into detox....so be careful...it was only for two days and very mild....whew! So glad you are making the transition! Team Vegan!

Leslie,

I was told that the dizziness and lightheadedness could be a symptom of not getting enough protein or drinking enough water. So I upped both my protein and water intake and feel a major difference. I am not sure if it was a detox symptom that has subsided or the increase of protein and water. However, all other symptoms I am sure are detox symptoms. Good luck!! :)

Good morning! I am in the middle of day 3. My first 2 days went fine, but today...OMG, I am edgy and have the munchies big time. I'm guessing ithese are detox symptoms. Thoughts? Any Recommendations so far A's getting through this phase or how long it will last?
Thanks!

Angela P,

Were you a vegetarian before a vegan? If not, good luck!! I wasn't and switched overnight to complete vegan and I am still having detox or withdrawal symptoms 4 weeks later. If you were a vegetarian before a vegan, as it varies from person to person, it should only last a couple of weeks. And everyone is different as to what they experience. I would think what you are experiencing is more of a hormonal shift than detoxing, but I am no expert. Good luck in your journey!

Angela K.,

I considered myself a conscientious omnivore. I ate mostly organic foods, including meat. My vegan week did not work so well. At this point I am vegetarian and limiting dairy to 1 serving per day. Some days are great and others bring on wicked detox symptoms. I am hoping these will subside soon.

Thanks!
Angela P.

It is the end of my second day of 100% dropping dairy, meat, and white sugar and the only thing I have been feeling so far is exhaustion. I woke up this morning and I felt like I hadn't slept at all. And tonight I am practically falling asleep writing this! I'm a little nervous about the whole acne thing because my skin has always been amazing. I get a small pimple once every few "times of the month" and other than that? Nothing.

Hopefully the detox symptoms won't get too bad! It's sooo worth it though and I can't wait to see the benefits!

I am on day 9 of eating all plant based diet and I am experiencing some odd things that I wonder if others have too. I have the mild headache and spacy-ness that has been mentioned. I am also experiencing some muscle fatigue, I work on my feet all day, have been maniacally monitoring my nutrient and protien levels and am still feeling this. Normal? Expected? Weird?

The second thing that is both fascinating and irritating is that my brain is much clearer but SO much more busy. Like A.D.D. on steroids. I don't sleep well because I am reliving random snippets of my day all night long in my brain. Is this elevated brain noise normal when people take away the bogging down foods? I feel manic in my head all the time, not quite to the point of anxiety but close. Worse is that its all scattered, hard to focus, and did I already say non-stop?

Having said that, physically I feel fantastic - like 2000 percent less bloated and heavy from meals. I recognize my body is changing from a digestive standpoint but that isn't troublesome.

Anyone experiencing anything similar?
