Safe hair dye

I have only recently discovered what dangerous chemicals are in hair dye. While I am not ready to just let my hair go "natural" at the moment, I just can't continue to get my hair dyed with the products that contain these chemicals. I have looked on-line to find hair products that are safe to use but am confused as to which to choose. Does anyone have a favorite that they could recommend?
I don't think any hair dyr is really that great - there are "bad" chemicals in almost all of them. The safest bet is probably to use henna - but that seems like a big hassle to me! So... I use this one: http://www.naturcolor.com/index.htm
I find it looks really natural (you don't get perfect even color all over - there are very natural looking highlights, etc.). I mix two colors, which is another nice thing about this brand - that you can do that yourself. Two things though - if you are trying to cover gray, only the "N" colors will do that (I mix 1/2 of a bottle of 8N with 1/2 a bottle of 7R or 8R). AND it will not lighten your hair - you can go darker, but not lighter.
I have been using Tints of Nature for some time and have been happy with it. I buy it at Wholefoods. Seems to be the lesser of the evils as far as nasty chemicals go: http://tintsofnature.com/
