I have a new favorite treat. Homemade custard. I got the recipe from VegNews.com (check it out... great recipes!). I never knew the wonder of agar agar flakes! The recipe from the site is for Mango custard, which I made first. Followed by strawberry custard. Now I just make it plain and add fresh fruit when I eat it. All it is is some kind of milk (I prefer almond, but coconut is good too), with your desired amount of agave nectar for sweetening. Boil that, add agar agar flakes, and simmer 5 minutes. Then refrigerate about an hour to set. So delicious! I also just made the Strawberry Kanten from TKD, which also uses agar agar flakes to get the consistency. It's very good as well! Anybody else make cool desserts with agar agar? I just find it so amazing, magical almost, how it sets up a liquid into a custard form. Who knew?!
