I'm easing my way slowly into TKD, feeling full of energy but seem to be suffering from insomnia??
Hi Malcome,
If you are not tired during the day you just may need less sleep. Diet change can so profoundly effect your metabolism, you may find a few extra hours added to the day and less sleep is required. If you are not sleeping at all or am exhausted you could try upping your exercise regime.
Hey - are you having trouble falling asleep, or do you wake up in the middle of the night unable to fall back asleep? If its the later, there is a possibility its a blood sugar issue - with the change of diet, your blood sugar may be adjusting and you can't get through the night. If you eat a small snack of a high glycemic food - cereal with soy/almond milk, a piece of toast with almond butter etc.... - before bed, it may do the trick. Or not! but its an easy thing to try!
A cleaner body (vegan) reacts more directly to everything you put in it. There is less "sludge" in your system to mask the effects of foods/medicines etc. It may be something you are eating that keeps you up, particularly if you are eating it anytime after lunch. I have found that I will be unable to sleep if I have vegan sweets ("ice creams" cookies, chocolate) in the afternoon. I fall asleep with no problem, but then find myself wide awake a couple of hours later. Also, alcohol will have this effect. Try keeping a little journal of what you are eating and see if you can find a pattern. When I eat superhero I sleep like a baby and feel so good the next day!
I've also been having major insomnia. I started this Aug. 14th, and always suffered from a little insomnia but it's way worse! ~ I've also not lost any weight which kind of surprises me...but I do LOVE the food and love cooking it, and feel much 'cleaner' in my kitchen and in my body...
if you ARE exhausted and really do need the rest (cuz Justin has a point--could be you don't need it!) i recommend melatonin. it's a natural way to help your body ease into rest. or kava tea. i like both but melatonin helps me get a good night's rest and it's very safe and you don't wake up feeling drugged or anything.
Ann, I am new to this site and wanted to respond to you very good suggestions. I thought if I flagged it I would be able to respond to you directly. I guess I learned about that the hard way. Sorry. I am going to try to eat a snack as you suggested. I have been awakening every night about 2 am and feeling head pain and hunger. Probably low blood sugar. Thank you for the information.
