Hi all, I just wanted to tell my brief story :). I'm 16 and actually from Melbourne, Australia. I've been a vegan for almost a year now, I didn't flirt or go vegetarian first, I went committed vegan straight away and although my family and friends didn't, and often still don't, understand, I love it. I was inspired by Alicia, I saw her do an interview about veganism and as a result researched it extensively. As soon as I saw all the information about it, all the stuff it does to the planet, our body's and the environment I knew that I couldn't just wait sit by and do nothing. I like to think that I'm influencing some of my friends and family to reduce their consumption of animal products, my family now eat a lot more vegetarian meals a week which is good, and I feel that a lot of my friends now know a lot more about the ethical issues surrounding animal products because of their curiosity regarding my diet.

I do feel great as a result of my change in diet, not just health wise but also morally and emotionally. I think the main thing I've noticed is that I feel more grounded and more connected with the planet in general. And the longer I don't eat animal products, the less I want to. I have to admit, slightly guiltily, that I don't actually own 'The Kind Diet', it has been on my wish list for about a year now, however over here you very few stores have it and you actually have to order it in everywhere I've been to. So I'm getting around to that, hopefully I'll get it for my birthday coming up.

So thats my little story, I'm very excited to have found this little community of like minded people, it's incredibly inspiring to know that the entire world isn't oblivious.

Happy vegan anniversary! I am thrilled that you took the steps to become vegan at 16 while living at home with meat-eaters. I can imagine it must have been difficult, but am so glad that you continued on!

Wow, that's awesome! :) I commend you for the bravery to make a stand and the committment to make it stick. It's not easy at any age, especially one that has so much peer pressure. I hope you get the book, it really has helped me continue the times that I thought I couldn't. :)
