I've just finished reading "The Kind Diet" and doing some on line research and I'm absolutely disgusted by what I've read! I have flirted with being vegan for the past 24 years (I'm 37), on and off the wagon, but now I don't think I can ever consume any animal product ever again. How is it that the public isn't told what goes on at these farms??? I realize the farmers/workers don't make it public knowledge, but for goodness sake! Thank you Alicia for opening my eyes!

I definitely agree! I'm so glad I read The Kind Diet! It is comforting to know other people care about animals, the way I do! The greed in this world is so disgusting....

Couldn't agree more but what can we do? Does anyone know what we can do to open up the general publics eyes about factory farming? There is no way to know how horrific it is to you start researching. I just watched a short video on the PETA website and I was in tears within 2 seconds of it starting. Anyone with any ounce of compassion for animals would be disgusted. We have to do something to stop the greed and selfishness that surrounds this industry.

John - this thread is about animal cruelty. My great grandparents are your mother's age, and they too have eaten meat and dairy their whole lives, but the majority of that hasn't been the factory-farmed crap that now exists. Also, even now, they eat the way they were raised, so they eat smaller portions and eat everything in moderation. It is not the same as the way most people eat today, and has nothing to do with the cruelty of factory farming,

I am glad nobody attacked John for his opinion. We all have to do what feels right to us. For me, I know that not everybody that smokes will get lung cancer but I'm not gonna go out and buy a pack and hope it doesn't happen to me. Nope, I'm going to do all that I can to eliminate carcinogens from my life and THEN hope it doesn't happen to me! And I agree with what Hazel said...things now are wayyyy different than they used to be!
