Hey Everyone! I'm currently in Toms River, originally from Bloomfield/Montclair/Hawthorne (and up there constantly since there's NOTHING here!) :) I've been vegetarian 10 years (Dec 11th is my 10 year Vegeversary. lol.) and vegan off and on but officially back on despite the added complications of my newfound gluten free diet. I make EVERYONE go to Veggie Heaven in Montclair & try to go everytime I'm up there. Used to frequent Kaya's Kitchen in Belmar but haven't gone since I've gone gluten free.. I'm am definitely up for a veg get together! :)
Hello, I live in Cliffwood, NJ and have been veggie for 2 years, it'll be 3 years next spring. I went vegan right at the start, I replaced anything in the fridge I could right away. The butter is earth balance, I have fallow your heart veganasie, things like that. Gave up milk and stuck to that for the most part the entire 2 years. If I ran out and my husband had some milk I would use his milk until I went shopping for more soy / almond / or coconut milk. I work next to a dunkin donuts and work 10 hour days sometimes so I was hooked on the caramel lattes!
It drives me nuts the lack of places that offer dairy free stuff. I think more and more places are coming around. I would love to hear from NJ residents all the places that offer great vegetarian and vegan options. I have been going to Starbucks which is 5 minutes or so away from my job, I have to park and go in, stand in line...being a dog groomer, and things that takes more than 2 min. really sets me back at work. I rarly take a break to do anything, I never get a lunch, so I have to bring healthy snacks, which is hard for me.
Anyways, a month has gone by and I've maintained a completely vegan diet! I am a home body, do everything with my husband so I may not meet up with anyone, but feel free to friend me and we can swap good locations, recipes, and support ofcourse! It is so refreshing to have NJ veggies and get your insights. Sometimes I feel alone in this, then I come on this site, and it helps keep me on track!
A few places I know:
Houlihans is great, they have many vegetarian options, The twisted tree in Asbury is a cute cafe the mocha latte w/ almond milk is sooo good. Jessie's cafe in Longbranch is great! Then Pizza fusion in Red Bank has vegan daiya cheese options for vegans! I saw a few listed here that I have yet to try.
Nice to meet all of you! Friend me if you like! ~Jenn
