Coumadin?

Anyone else out there trying to balance a plant based diet while taking coumadin? I suffered a pulmonary embolism in January and will hopefully be coming off the coumadin soon but it does limit your ability to eat a lot of vegetables.
While it is true that when you take coumadin you should not suddenly change your eating habbits (leafy greens are high in Vitamin K, which reverses the effect of coumadin, which is not a good thing in a person who needs coumadin). The current teaching is to not limit your greens, however, if you never ate kale before for example, you should not up and start eating kale on a near daily basis. If you did eat kale on a regular basis, it is okay to keep eating it like you normally did, and the doctor should adjust your dose of coumadin accordingling based on blood levels. I hope that makes sense.
Now, if you are switching to a plant based diet while taking coumadin I would suggest doing so with your doctors knowledge that you are. They may want to monitor your blood closer for a while to see how much of an effect the greens are having on your coumadin. I would definently be sure that your doctor is fully aware of the diet changes you are making.
(please note, this advice is not in place of seeking your primary physicians advice and guidance - always check with your doctor before making a medication or diet change).Good Luck!
Thank you, I appreciate the advice.
Great advise from Laura, I concur.
