French-momma - what is NAC?

Nicole - I've read Sambucol is supposed to be amazing. I think I'll look at the ingredients - I wonder if plain elderberry is the same?

Hazel, here's the ingredients list from the package of Sambucol for Kids that we have: (Black Elderberry of course), Glucose Syrup, Purified Water, Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate.

I was also looking at the Sambucus syrup by Nature's Way - theirs also includes echinacea. Ingredients: Echinacea Root, Echinacea Flower, Elderberry Extract, Fructose, Purified Water, Glycerin (Vegetable Sourced), Natural Raspberry Flavor, Citric Acid.

I've gotten Sambucol because that was what was used in the studies I found, but it may not really make a difference. I would think you could make elderberry syrup at home if you wanted to.

Just noticed the question about people asking or bugging you to get the shot. Since I'm allergic to the Egg, I can't get one anyway, and that got most people to stop asking.

But everytime I'm around new people they may ask, and I always say no... my theory is, if I'm going to get the flu, I will get it with or without a shot.. as proven last year... when 20 vaccinated co-workers all got the flu, and I didn't. Of course back when I got the flu shot, I didn't get the flu either...

Needless to say, I'll get it when I get it, and hopefully won't... That said, i'm very very very much in to preventative in our house.

Green smoothies filled with antioxidant and immune building goodness almost every day... Good Sleep is a bonus, good exercise is an extra bonus.. and A good clean healthy mostly Vegan diet.

Seasonal fruits like Cranberries are awesome for smoothies, and are great for fighting sick bugs. Same with Pomegranates which are just hitting our stores now.

Of course washing hands, and I'm a freak about not sharing food, not drinking out of the same glass as a family member, and I also avoid shaking hands as much as possible... Just thinking about it gives me the willies... but sometimes it can't be avoided... ugh!

If all that doesn't work and something slips through, I have an entire non-medicine cabinet that we turn to. Things like Echinacea/Goldenseal, Aloe Juice, Garlic, Apple Cider Vinegar, Oregano Oil, Basil, Chamomile, Elderberry..... and more...

I also make a homemade eucalyptus rub that we all like and we have two bath soaps that are great for sore muscles or aching sick bug symptoms with eucalyptus, tea tree, and other goodies.

I don't let sick bugs live in our bodies if I can help it... *smile*

NAC is N-acetyl cistene a very vital amino acid that sets of a chain reaction of aminos in healing especially at a cellular level and it is crucial for immune function. That is why many naturopaths recommend it during flu season.

i'm 34 weeks pregnant and have been tossing and turning about all these vaccinations. i live in ontario and i'm wondering if the vaccines are the same as the u.s? my son is 10 years old and i gave him everything the dr. told me to do. even the chicken pox vaccine, which i totally regretted afterwards. as of now i'm not sure which ones i'm comfortable with. whatever ones i do decide on, i will definitely split them up, and also wait until he's as old as possible. between deciding whether to do all the screenings during pregnancy, decision about circumcission, and soon all the vaccines...... it's enough to make your head spin!! i just want to have my baby and that be that ;)

I am not a believer that vaccines are good for us, and I probably never will be. People have taken very many risks and suffered the consequences of getting vaccines. Just as disease causes suffering. Just because disease kills people does not mean that we should inject ourselves and our children with poison. I am sorry to say, but suffering is part of life, and so is death. I don't think that we should allow Docotrs to make us ill with vaccine. Let our bodies be as they were meant to be.

I have more of my own research to add later.
