Hi all, I have been switching over to vegan beauty products but it seems I am having an allergic reaction to the shampoo and conditioners I have been trying. They make my scalp itchy and break out and where my hair touches my face, I break out too. I never had this happen before when I used the bad conventional kind. I have super sensitive skin. Has anyone encountered this and if so, can you give me any advice? I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Hi Lisa!

I am SUPER sensitive too. The only thing that has worked for me is PUREOLOGY in the purple bottles. I have been using it for years now, and it happens to be vegan. Not only am I not allergic, but a little goes a LONG way. It is a bit pricey, but not really, if you don't overdo it. It is designed to be used sparingly and it last me several moths at a time.

Best to you!

The problem I have with most natural shampoos and conditioners is the citric acid or ascorbic acid they contain. Or soy or corn. These things make my scalp itch like mad and sometimes make me shed more hair than normal, and they break my hands out too. I am going to look into that Pureology stuff, thanks Cassi!

Thanks for the idea. I've tried Purology before though and had the same issue. I read somewhere on here that Alicia uses Kiss My Face shampoo and Desert Essence Grape conditioner to I am going to stop by Whole Foods on the way home and try those. My fingers are crossed! I so want to do the right thing and this itchiness is driving me mad - lol. I just wish I knew which ingredient I am allergic to.

Try Modern Elixers (by paul mitchell) They are all natural and REALLY gentle. I LOVE them! They make a color care, a bodifying, and a refining line for their shampoos and conditioners. They also have great products!

The A'kin product range of unscented shampoos and conditioners are great for very sensitive skins as they are chemical-free. Check out the range at: http://www.cultbeauty.co.uk/brand165_akin.php

Lush solid shampoo bars are the only thing that don't make my head break out into hives. Their solid shampoos are amazing and last forever!

I've used and love the Pureology, too. Also have used Abba Hair Care products and like them a lot. Ashleigh, thanks for the link to A'kin - their products look very gentle. I wasn't able to tell from the site if they were animal-friendly (either vegan or non-animal tested). Do you know?

You should take a look at Paula Begoun's website www.paulaschoice.com She has an incredible amount of information about skin care and hair!

I use a rosemary and mint shampoo from Kogi Naturals. It is a Canadian brand (I think? The products I use from there are made right downtown here) and is all natural with human friendly ingredients! They also have a nice unscented shampoo and conditioner, as well as other scents. You may be able to find them online.
