Struggling...back to flirt :-(

I don't know why it's harder to get back than when I first started and cut out everything cold turkey(dairy, meat, caffeine, etc.) I don't miss meat at all, but am dipping into the fish pool somewhat regularly. Cheese is apparently my achilles heel. And I'm having trouble coordinating myself around sea vegetables. Sure some wakame in miso soup I've got down, but alternatives that are quick and easy?

I love all the food, I eat a wide variety of beans and grains, greens and veggies (though I find myself in something of a veggie rut (brocolli, carrots, squash, onions and celery, cauliflower, collards). But I remember feeling so incredibly great when I stayed away from cheese and coffee, I can't understand why I keep sabotaging myself with these, alcohol too.

I read someone else's suggestion to read Eating Animals to get that commitment back, I'll order that today. Any other suggestions for a previous Superhero back to Flirt, and wants to be Superhero again?! Thanks in advance for positive reinforcements!-Stacy

Eating Animals is great. Replace coffee with green tea or Yerba Mate. Cheese - reread TKD, look at Alicia's recent posts on dairy farming, don't let yourself have any at all, not one little bite, for a couple of weeks to break the habit. Want to know what modern fishing's doing to our planet? Watch The End of the LIne.

Other veggies: kale, leeks, brussel sprouts, kale, beets, green beans, asparagus, snap peas kale, corn, snow peas . . . oh and kale! Those are regulars for me.

If you are really serious and are in desperate need of a kick in the butt - watch Earthlings.

National Geographic's Strange Days on Planet Earth is also pretty good - it really helps to show how everything is connected, and how overfishing is contributing to so many problems around the world.

Stacy - this is a bit of a shameless plug, but you should check out my blog - it's filled with hundreds of reasons to keep your vegan resolve, as well as recipes, tricks of the trade, and readerss stories. I also have a "Three Steps" page with ways to go - and stay! - vegan easily and joyfully. Check everything out at www.kissmeimvegan.com.

I also recommend buying cookbooks like "How it All Vegan", "Vegan Yum Yum", and "Vegan With a Vengeance" by Isa Chandra Moskowitz. Experiment and try new meals! Heck, if you reach out to me through my contact page, I'll send you an email with support and ideas!

Lots of love,

Take it slow! Maybe just try cutting out one thing at a time. After I became a vegetarian, I craved meat a little, but I knew that this is what I wanted to do. I cut meat "cold turkey" and was really happy with it because I was so tired of forcing myself to eat meat. After 5 months of being a vegetarian, I've decided that I want to start cutting out dairy from my diet, but I'm going to do it slowly. After I finish the ice cream I have, I'm going to start buying dairy free ice cream and I just bought almond milk. Just take it slow and do what you can! Cut out caffeine slowly! Start with cutting back a little each day :) You can do it!

I just had my omnivore family over and we were recalling how much I loved cheese. My comment was morning, noon and night. I promise you will get over it if you allow yourself to. I actually get kind of boaged out now when I think about it. It's from a cow udder (never into goat or sheep), I mean like where has this udder bean, the whole thing is weird.
