How did you kick the sugar habit? I am really having a tough time with it. Any tips would help :)

Tough for me too. And admittedly, sometimes I still give in to the sugar craving. BUT it's FAR FAR less than I used to, so I consider that progress, as should you (in my opinion). My recommendation: make desserts from Alicia's book, or other recipes, using brown rice syrup and/or agave as the sweetener (as opposed to refined sugars). I recently made a cake from a recipe I got online. I subsituted brown rice syrup for the sugar the recipe called for. The recipe was vegan, but it still included regular, white sugar, which I didn't want to use. It turned out GREAT and really hit that spot for some spongy cake!! Alicia's "My Favorite Cupcakes" recipe is also excellent! Or if I don't have the time or desire to make something, I'll buy "safe" desserts. Just read the ingredients and buy something that uses fruit juices to sweeten, or brown rice syrup. Basically anything but processed sugars. I've found some good things that hit the sweet spot for me.

And remember, when you're feeling that "I have to have it" craving for sugar, it's akin to a drug addict. That usually reminds me that the addiction is beginning again and I need to step back. Eat more whole grains and veggies. Also protein. Good luck!! It's definitely a process and a daily choice!!

"Discipline is remembering what you want." (I love that quote, can't remember where it came from, but it really helps me stay on track.)
