Petroleum jelly alternative?

The combination of cold, dry weather and sweaters make the skin on my elbows SO dry and uncomfortable. They sting and sometimes even crack. I've tried everything and only products like Aquaphor and Vaseline provide long lasting relief (I cut the elastic part off a pair of my husband's old socks and use them as "sleeves" overnight to allow the products to work). The problem is, using products that contain petroleum jelly makes me unhappy. Does anyone know of any eco and health-friendly alternatives?

Hi Sarah :)

Sorry to hear about your skin (we are in Spring here in Australia and already up to 39 degrees so my skin is cracking because of the heat!).

I actually make and sell various face and body products (as well as organic candles). However, for quick relief, I recommend some Shea butter - rubbed directly on to the areas, or jojoba oil. A really good all-round oil is Rosehip which I have found to be useful on my skin too.

I was the same - nothing worked other than Vaseline, but give these ones a go and see how you get on. Good luck :-)

Thanks Ruthy! I will definitely give those a go! Where do you sell your products?

I haven't personally used it but I've seen this at Whole Foods and other natural stores:

Hi Sarah! I hope it helps! Having suffered from psoriasis, I have tried every trick in the book regarding skin solutions!

I am currently getting my website (and Etsy shop) up and running, but if you were interested, feel free to email me at: greenritualorganics@gmail.com.

We sell naturally organic products such as: natural soy candles, moisturisers (I have a great aloe vera one that is excellent on dry and chapped skin!), face masks, eye gels, facial serums, scrubs etc etc etc.

Keep me posted as to how your skin is :-)

Hi Sarah,

I've used the "unpetroleum" that Starflower mentioned. I like it for chapped lips and cuticles. Other than that, it's very thick.

Peace,

Suzann

I love Alba products but have never encountered their 'unpetroleum' product. I can't wait to give it a try. Thanks guys!
