Ice Cream in a Vitamix versus an Ice Cream Machine?

Aloha All,

I own a Vitamix and I know that there are some ice cream recipes in the booklet, however, I am looking at those recipes compares to the recipes in the Vegan Scoop book and they are quite different. I love the creaminess of store bought vegan ice cream and want to be able to make something similar. My questions are: Have any of you made ice cream with your vitamix? Was it good? Do you think it will be better if I made it in an ice cream machine?

Much Mahalo,

Hi Leanna, I have made more of a milkshake in my Vitamix. This helped me a lot when I first gave up dairy. I use 1 cup non-dairy milk (I use rice milk), 5 pitted dates, 1 frozen banana, 1/4 cup raw almonds with 4 to 5 ice cubes. I blend this all together in the Vitamix until it's the consistency of a thick milkshake. I have also made non-dairy ice cream in our ice cream maker with coconut milk, which came out pretty good. I like the simplicity of the Vitamix, so I prefer the recipe above.

I hope this helps.

I've never had an ice cream maker but LOVE ice cream in the Vita-Mix.

I actually started with just using Frozen Bananas... chop up/freeze, then use the tamper and it makes the creamiest ice cream... Then I started adding frozen greens, sometimes a little mint or choco chips. I've added peanut butter before too. Or berries.

What every flavor I like can be made in about 3 minutes.

Thanks Vegmom! Do you make enough to freeze it for later?

Sorry leablossom, I'm just seeing this to reply... There is rarely enough left over to save :-)

I usually make enough for everyone to gobble up and I can't ever get enough to keep for later. Although there are times, where I get a small bowl, and I'll bring it with me for work and it is thawed enough to eat for breakfast in the morning.. Yum! :-)

Forgot... I've also tried the Peach Ice Cream from the Vita-Mix cook book.. Sooo creamy and delicious. We went peach picking in the summer, and I froze a bunch, then made the ice cream all summer long.

It was usually just enough, and we didn't have any of that left over either, so I guess I'm not much help. :-).
