An Aussie Flirt in London

Hi Kind Lifers!
I'm 26 and currently based in west London - although home will always be Melbourne, Australia. I've been flirting with vegetarianism on and off for quite a few years now, and after reading Alicia's book and doing a bit of my own further research on the side am looking at trying my hand at a vegan lifestyle.
Currently, I'm feeling a little scared and overwhelmed with the whole idea - but hopefully once I get started that will change!
Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting to know some of you and hopefully picking up some advice along the way.
xx
Hi fellow Aussie girl:)
Thought I'd say hello. I'm from Noosa, QLD and have been dabbling in veganism for a couple of years but only just made the switch in July. I haven't looked back. I used to live over there too for a couple of years (UK & Turkey) and I just went back for a visit in July/August and brought The Kind Life with me for travelling reading material. After reading it, did you get really excited about making the switch? I did! The thing that allowed me to finally make the switch was realising after much google-ing that there is pretty much a vegan equivalent to everything you could possibly crave, so I could be vegan without feeling like I was missing out. If you ever feel like a dessert, just google raw dessert recipes. Hundreds and hundreds of amazing recipes come up for raw food and it is all vegan, wheat/gluten free and sugar free. And SO quick and healthy. There is a great health food shop in Notting Hill that I stumbled across the other month, it was right down the end of the markets, you know where the street kinda dips down and there are a few bakeries (one of which sells loads of vegan cakes etc) and a bridge over the road? Well it's just under the bridge. They sell heaps of great vegan things. Also, you have to go for dinner at Saf. It's an unbelievable restaurant in London that is 100% vegan, 50% raw. It's increadible! So so delicious. I went a couple of times when I was there and was so sad that there isn't a raw restaurant closer to Noosa! Hmmm...yet maybe.... ;) Anyway, you should go! It's so nice to go out for dinner anad be able to order EVERYTHING off the menu without having to make a special request to change it for this and that. And the cocktail and organic wine list is a plus too...The closest tube stop to Saf is Old Street. Love it. So good luck with it hun! Hope you're having a great time over there. Looks like a white Christmas might be on the cards for you too huh? Nice! Luv Mali x
Hi Mali,
Thanks for your message! I know exactly what you mean about the excitement of the switch after reading 'The Kind Life' - I bought it to read on the plane on the way over, and I read it cover to cover twice! It's taken me a few months to actually make the decision, but I have now...now I'm just finding my feet and getting organised. Oh, I know the health food shop you're talking about! I might have to check it out again tomorrow - and the fact that the nearby bakery sells vegan cakes makes it even more enticing!! I will definitely check out Saf too. I've got a friend that lives right near Old Street - perfect place to have a dinner catch up.
I'm enjoying my time over here - it's FREEZING though! Slowly getting used to real winter. We had a decent amount of snow last week, but it's gone again now. Fingers crossed it's back for christmas!
Thanks again for all of your suggestions and encouragement! xx
No worries! Yep, fingers crossed for a white christmas for you. It hasn't stopped raining here - it doesn't feel like summer at all yet! Have fun x
