HELP! Moving to DC from TEXAS, need a jacket!

I've lived in Texas my entire life, and am moving to DC in the January cold (what was I thinking?!?)... I'm going to be a lowly cash-strapped intern, but I can't stomach the thought of wearing a down coat.


Any tips for SUPER warm, not too pricey coats?

I bought one last year from Vaute Couture when I moved from Los Angeles to Wisconsin in December (I know how crazy you must feel!). I was torn between one of theirs and a few others that I had found. American Apparel has some really cute vegan coats, as well as Steve Madden's new vegan line (I can't recall the name of it at the moment) that you can find on sites like overstock.com and stuff. Hope this helps!
