I know sweet potatos do not qualify as a nightshade. Does this apply to yams as well? are yams a type of sweet potato?

Yams are not night shades, I'm on a hypoallergenic diet right now, I can have both yams and sweet potatoes. :)

Thank you Cassi :) I always get confused between them. I know the Kind Diet book approves of sweet potatoes for superheroes so I was wondering if it applies to yams as well.

Thanx!

Beverly - yams actually are sweet potatoes, they are just called yams even though real yams are a different vegetable altogether, as least, that's what I and another person on here came up with at Thanksgiving. You can look up the differences online. There was a question about this for Thanksgiving on one of Alicia's blogs. You can easily find the information on Wikipedia, or I believe one person wrote that Alton Brown (very well known chef if you don't know who he is) has a video on youtube where he talks about the difference, too (being no difference in the U.S., we just incorrectly named one yam to distinguish it from the white sweet potato)
