I have been toying with the idea of becoming a vegan for about 6 months or so. During that time I have read T. Colin Cambell's book The China Study, Fast Food Nation, and Alicia's The Kind Diet. I have been convinced that this is the way for me to live and have been a vegan now for about two weeks. I am secretly weaning my family off meat as well! My eight year old and my husband cannot have dairy and my 13 year old isn't big on it so that has not been a problem for them. I am also interested in changing my skin care products and already use eco friendly household cleaning products. I live in an area that provides access to organic vegan yummies, but live on a limited budget. In two weeks I already feel much happier inside! Thank you, Alicia for such an inspiring book!
Congrats, Billi Jo! YOu are doing the best possible thing you possibly can be for yourself and your family! (Love your method too! lol) It sounds like you are doing everything right If you need anything the people here are great- very helpful and supportive. Also, I keep a blog on plant-based diets called The Plant Rx (Prescription) you may be interested to check out (www.theplantrx.com). We are actually starting a "mini-experiment" in 2 weeks in which people are adopting a plant-based diet and we are following their health prior to adopting a pbd then at the 30 day and 60 day marks. The will be blogging about their experiences as they happen. Thus in real time you will get to see how it is effecting them and perhaps cool tips and hints that they've figured to help them. They is also a bunch of other resources there (will be more in the future and adding more content everyday, but there is only 1 of me :)
Anyway, I wish you the best of luck! Happy New Year, Jenna
Thank you, Jenna! I did check out your blog and am extremely interested in hearing the results of your experiment. I wish I was in the LA area to participate :) I am having so much fun with my vegan cooking and look forward to learning more through this growing community!
I wish you were here too! Definitely do check back! You may be able to help them as I'm sure they will be in need of support and helpful ideas like things that have worked for you, etc. I have one woman who I'm the most concerned about because her husband and kids are completely against the idea and he is the one who cooks dinner! Yikes! Poor thing will be fighting an uphill battle. She will definitely need some encouragement. (Her name is Stephanie) I hope to have their bios, etc up on the site by the end of next weekend! Best Wishes and Happy New Year! KIndest Regards, Jenna
