Hello!
I'm a native Portlandian as well! I've lived here my whole life and I LOVE IT!! I never want to leave :-D I was fortunate enough to meet Alicia when she stopped in Portland for a book signing, so I feel a special connection between my hometown and veganism. I guess I'd fall into the flirt category...I'm full time vegetarian, part time vegan (full time vegan is my mission). I love trying new vegan things, so it would be great to hear from everyone else what their favorite places are! Some great ones I know of, in case you haven't already been there...
There's Portobello on the east side - I think they change their menu pretty often to keep it in season, and I've heard it's fantastic! Then there's my favorite, Sweetpea - it's actually a bakery but they also have great sandwiches and the like. It's soooo good, especially their vegan brownies and cupcakes and...well, everything (they do wedding cakes, too)! The best part is that they're a part of the vegan "mini mall," which includes a vegan tattoo parlor, a vegan clothing boutique, and a completely vegan grocery store ("Food Fight!" Check out their website)! A must for all vegans in Portland!
Most people know this already, but VooDoo Donuts makes vegan versions of their donuts (and they're better than the originals). If you haven't been there yet, you have to, if only for the experience! Located on the east side, and if you can brave standing out in the cold rain for 45 minutes, there's a hole in the wall location on the west side.
And finally, the grocery stores that sell the best variety of vegan options in my experience are Whole Foods, Market of Choice, New Seasons, and for some things even Trader Joe's (you just have to look for the Vegan label).
Hope this can be of use to everyone!
