Hello Portlanders!
I live in Portland and would love to meet up with fellow Kind Lifers. I have recently completed the NW Veg MVP class - anyone else connected with NW Veg?
We are so lucky to have so many wonderful vegan restaurants, stores and bakeries in Portland.
Oh yeah, and if you haven't seen it yet Forks over Knives is playing in Portland until Jan 20th. Portland was chosen as an early release city and so far most shows have been selling out. You can get tickets online at nwveg.org. Forks over Knives is a feature length documentary based on the book The China Study by T Colin Campbell.
Hello Everyone,
I am fairly new to Portland as well and completely new to the kind life. I had decided to become a vegan about 3 months ago and stumbled onto Alicia's website and I love it. My plan is to be completely vegan by February but I want to make sure I do this the right way so I never have to go back.
I feel lucky to live in Portland because it really embraces the Vegan lifestyle. Thank you all so much for the suggestions. I can't wait to drag my husband to some of these restaurants. I have heard Sweet Pea is amazing too. So that is on the top of my list.
Kim you mentioned NW Veg. I was looking into some of their classes. Were you happy with them?
I have also read The China Study and can't wait to see Forks Over Knives. If you all are looking for another good read try The Food Revolution by John Robbins. I haven't gotten The Kind Diet yet but I can't wait to pick it up and dig through the recipes. My husband is a very picky eater and while he's very supportive of a vegan diet, it's hard to find things that he will eat too. If you guys have any suggestions I would love some!
I think a pot luck would be fun too. I look forward to hearing and learning more!
Thanks fellow Portlanders!
Kelly,
I LOVED the MVP class through NWVeg. I think NWVeg does an excellent job at promoting the vegan lifestyle in the Portland area. They are very non-threating and have a very positive approach to activism.
The pre-release of Forks over Knives ends on Jan 20th. NWVeg has a table at the theater. Please all Portlanders come out and support FoK and NWVeg.
NWVeg also has monthly potlucks in the Portland/Vancouver area. That would be a great way for a lot of us kinderlifers to meet or we could do a kindlife potluck.
Just got word that Forks over Knives got extended another week. Now showing through Jan 27th. So great to see that it has been such a success here in Portland. Please go see it!
You can buy your tickets online at http://www.nwveg.org/
I suggest getting them early as many shows are selling out.
Hi Portland Vegans! You should all come to the 7th Annual Vegfest September 17th & 18th in the Oregon Convention Center. Hundreds of free vegan food samples from all our favorite companies (including Amy's, Guiltless Gourmet, Pacific, Dave's Killer Bread, etc.), a fantastic lineup of speakers, including Dr. Neal Barnard of Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine and Wayne Pacelle of the Humane Society. Forks over Knives & How I became an Elephant are being screened and there will be all sorts of cooking demonstrations so you can learn to veganize some of your favorite meals. Find out more at http://www.nwveg.org/vegfest
It's a wonderful vegan event and a GREAT place to get inspiration!
We hope to see you at the Convention Center!
Hi!
I am seriously considering moving to Portland in a few months. My main reasons being outdoor recreation opportunities, healthy conscious living, and vegan lifestyle opportunities. I currently live in Chicago but really want to go to Portland in the next few months to explore and see if I should move there this coming spring. Any suggestions? This would be my first move out of Chicago that doesnt have to do with college, etc, so I could use some help.
I thought this might be a good place to start since Kind Lifers are usually "kind", supportive, and open to help others on their journey.
Thanks for your time! Post back, or message me would be amazing!!! SOOO EXCITED to be a Portlander!
I am looking for a friend in PDX who is doing, or planning to do the Superhero plan hardcore! I have been vegan for 9 years and have flirted with really clean eating on and off but I really want to kick that white sugar/flour habit for goodzies. Anyone want to get to know one another and be superhero sidekicks?
Check out Northwest VEG at their website nwveg.org.
Master Veg program, Veg101 classes, Portland Vegan Potluck, Vancouver Vegan Potluck, with great guest speakers, VEGFEST2012 is coming in September, lots of volunteer opportunities, and much more...
hi. New to Portland. Only five months here, but so far it's great. My favorite place to live so far. Have been a vegetarian for YEARS but am having a hard time making the leap to vegan. My husband is not a vegetarian so it is hard!
Would love to connect with others in the area (I live in Aloha/Beaverton area) to share recipes, suggestions, support, etc.
The Veggie Grill is great. Recently took my entire meat-eating family there and everyone left happily surprised and satisfied!
Anyone into yoga? Suggestions for a good studio/teacher would be appreciated.
Peace!
