Hi Kind lifers! Is there any one living in KW? If so, I'd love to get together and organize a potluck, or tea or something!

Hi Deni!

I'm here! Have you found all the different items that Alicia lists in her book? There are some I just cannot find!

Hi everyone!

I live just outside of KW but it is nice to hear about people so close!

Yay! I didn't think there would be anyone here!

So what do you ladies do? Working, student, mom? I just finished my undergrad at Laurier and I live in Kitchener.

Brianne- I"ve been able to find almost everything. What was it that you weren't able to find? Maybe I can guide you.

NO WAY! I live here (although I'm currently on exchange in Germany). I find it so ridiculously difficult to be vegan, let alone vegetarian in Waterloo. Zehrs, Sobeys... they're ALL so expensive! Where do you guys shop?

Yay KW Town represent!

Deni - Umboshi plums and the sea vegatables are the main ones that I can't find. Most others I have been able to track down.

Andie - I mostly shop at Zehrs and Sobeys as well as the St. Jacobs farmers market. I can generally find some local produce and some on sale tofu. There are a few health food stores too I shop at but for the life of my I can't remember the name!

I am a student and I recommend The Healthy Haven by the Fredrickton cutoff in Kitchener. Fiddleheads and Kara's Foods are located in there and it is a great place for vegans. Lots of fresh, organic fruit! Also there is a health food store downtown Waterloo but I cannot remember the name of it. For dining out Ye's Sushi in Waterloo is great the only issue I have with them is whether they prepare the fish separate from the veg orders.

Hey Everyone!

I am so happy to see some peeps from KW!

Brianne - You should try either the Old Kitchen Cupboard in Belmont Village or Full Circle near the bus terminal in KW for some hard to find items like those. I know the OKC has lots of different sea veggies and I seem to be able to find some rare stuff at Full Circle that is not carried in other stores. I am pretty sure that I have seen umeboshi plums there.

I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to be reading this! I'm new to the area (doing my Masters at UW) and don't know a single vegan here. I have had trouble finding the plums and almost all of the sea vegetables as well. I had not heard of any of these stores you all are mentioning so I'm excited to have a bunch of new places to explore. Yay!

I'd like to second Deni's suggestion of planning a potluck or even just meeting for tea to start with. Any takers?

My personal email is annikamartins@live.com. Please feel free to write me anytime. I'd love to get together asap with fellow KW vegans/vegan wannabe's. I'm working to get to 100% but definitely not there yet - the support would be hugely appreciated :)

I would love to meet up, do a potluck, tea ... or whatever! Count me in!

Annika - OKC and Full Circle are both really good, I go there all the time. They've both been around forever, totally worth checking out!! :)

Also...has anyone tried Thrive in the Bauer lofts yet? Their menu sounds really yummy!
