I'm in Mississauga! I can't believe this is the only post for people in the GTA!

I was totally expecting there might be at least someone who posted from Toronto.

Feel free to contact me. I'm the only Vegan I know in the area and it makes it really hard to keep on track when you don't have much a a support system around you.

Yay!! I used to live in Mississauga! I am also the only Vegan I know in my area, we should keep in touch and support each other. I can agree with you on how hard it is without an support system, it's hard when friends and family make you feel food foreign. What stores do you like in Mississauga? I like Organic Planet the offer a lot of food but they are on the expensive side.

So happy to meet you! :)

Hello Ladies,

I am from Toronto and like Cealiea I was hoping that there would be more people from Toronto. I am happy to meet you both. I have been vegan for the past year after reading Alicia's book. My biggest challenge to staying vegan is my love for chocolate. I tried the vegan chocolate and it's just not the same thing. I love the milk chocolate and it's so difficult giving it up. But I am doing my best and I definitely cut down on the milk chocolate.

I'm happy to know there are some kind lifers from the GTA

Hi Cealiea! Nice to meet you! I hear you on the chocolate its hard but Presidents Choices makes a good vegan chocolate chip that tastes awesome and it excellent for baking. Hooray for us GTA'ers perhaps we could do a get together at a Vegan restaurant (Freash or Raw Aura)? Or even a pot luck? Its hard finding Vegan friends, my boyfriend is full on meat eater... pretty much all my friends are :(. I think we can all agree that even though we firmly believe in what we are doing having friends that share your beliefs is a nice perk.

I'm going to do it.. Is anyone on face book? (you knew it was coming :p)

Hey,

I too used to live in Mississauga now I'm in Brampton. I used to shop at Planet Organic as well and if I'm in the area, I will visit. But you're right Kat, the markup on a lot of products can be insane!! Right now I'm primarily resorting to buying the organic or vegan products at Fortino's. Not the greatest variety but it's a start.

Nell--I've struggled too with the whole chocolate thing, but I'm surprisingly doing quite well. I have a new found appreciation for dark chocolate and haven't been feening for the cheap milk chocolate in a long time! There is a brand called "Enjoy Life" and they make dairy free chocolate chips. That's what I use in my baking now and it tastes great! They also make a lot of stuff including trail mix and its great for anyone with allergies--no soy, nuts dairy, wheat...nada!

Look forward to conversing with all of you.

Kat! Add me on facebook! I'd love to get a group together! My fiance is also sticking hard to his meat and cheese diet, making different things for two people for dinner gets pretty tiring!

Hi Everyone!!

I'm new to this, one week so far!! I am in Tottenham, 45 minutes north of Toronto and Mississauga. I was in Newmarket today trying to find some basic items to stock the pantry at Ambrosia Whole Foods. They were pretty helpful with my questions. I was however hoping for a bit more selection on meat replacements but what they had was limited. I picked up the Idiot's Guide to Vegan Cooking on the way home, so hopefully that will help!!! My big problem with going Vegan is the fact that I hate legumes!! I am going to have to figure out how to get those into my diet.. As far as my weaknesses go, they are cheese and chocolate, but so far, so good.

I am happy to have connected with all of you!
