I wanted to know what is everyone's thoughts on dried fruits. In particular, dried mango? I have a bag of organic dried mango in the fridge but everytime I get a craving for it, I feel bad because it tastes so sweet (Feel like I'm doing something wrong!!) Do you think dried fruit is a healthy snack or is it just better to eat regular fruits?

I think you just have to eat it in moderation (unless you're going for superhero, in which case even less than that). With dried fruit, it's easy to eat a lot more than you would if you were eating fresh fruit. Also, so much of it is made with sulfites and sugar. If you are going to eat dried fruit, in my opinion, you should be looking for sulfite free and either unsweetened or fruit-juice sweetened. But I would go for fresh whenever possible - you're gonna get the water of the fruit when you eat fresh, probably consume fewer calories just because no added sugar, and I don't know how the fiber benefit might be changed if it's dried. Dried is still better than candy, though, right, even with its added sugar?

Thank you. The kind that I have is sulfate & sugar free. I guess the sweetness (sosweetomgosh) comes naturally from the drying process. It looks almost like crystalized ginger. I saw it on the shelf and it was one of those spur of the moment type of things. It seems like it will be good chopped up and added to oatmeal. I'll finish the bag off but your right about not getting that added benefit of water and fiber. I think I'll stick with the fresh!

Im actually going to buy a dehydrator soon so I can have lots of dried fruit on hand.

Obviously fresh fruit is better because you are getting the water content from them that your body needs, but dried fruit will last you longer, and is still better than eating sugar or candy right?

I like coconut pieces kept in fridge for two - three days. They are really yummy in taste as dried fruits..

Regular fruits are better but dried fruit is still good. I like a little raw goji berries and incan berries now and again as a snack or part of other recipes.
