I am from Toronto. I live in Miami now and my husband and I are considering moving back. It's funny because I constantly wonder how it will be to be a vegan in Toronto. I have only recently become Vegan and haven't been home since. I was wondering if there was a community there for me and what I will do there if I go back. Do you find it difficult there?

Hey,

Right now I'm actually just vegetarian. I go to university in London, Ontario and only have what's available to me in the cafeteria. I'm thinking of giving myself the goal of being vegan for a month this summer, once I move back home (toronto) and have access to a kitchen again. When I'm at home I love to cook vegan/veggie food. I live close to Whole Foods, and adore cooking, so I don't find it hard to do. It just becomes a little harder when eating out I find.

I live in Mississauga, so very close to Toronto. I find it pretty hard to find really solid places to eat that have vegan friendly options. It's nothing like most place in the states I've been to that have amazing veg restaurants left right and centre. I don't know may, or any, vegans in the area. So keep in touch!

Me! Well, I live just beyond the city limits, but if I'm looking to eat out I generally have to go downtown as there aren't really many veg/vegan places where I live.

I've found a few places in the city:

-"Kale" at Yonge/Eglinton. Good for lunch/takeout, cost determined by weight of food. Buffet style, fresh juices and smoothies, 100% vegan, organic, and some macrobiotic foods.

-"Fresh" on Bloor (also Spadina and Crawford locations) has also been good every time I've gone. You can view their menu online.

I've also heard "Fressen," "Cruda Cafe," "Rawlicious," and "Sunny Cafe" are good, but I've yet to try any of these.

Hey! Also living in Toronto...well I'm in Mississauga now but will be moving downtown in May. I definitely find it hard in Mississauga, especially since I rely on public transit, but I was finally able to locate a few weeks ago some yummy tofutti ice cream, earth balance butter and nutritional yeast:) now I want to find tofutti sour cream, cream cheese and some vegenaise! Does anyone know stores either in Mississauga or Toronto that carry those items?

Yay this is so exciting! I'm the only vegan I know haha!!

Hi Lissa

Don't know about the sour cream and cream cheese, but try Planet Organic in Port Credit (Lakeshore east of Hurontario). I think another store had it but I'm trying to remember....but they will definitely have it.

Also on Lakeshore is a place called Raw Aura. A bit pricey (no surprise) but last time I was there I had their "pizza" and it was really good!

Aww!! YAY!!

I'm so happy to see so many GTA-ers here!!!

I'm from Toronto, but live in Port Credit, and I have to say that I LOVE Planet Organic and Raw Aura! Also, I must point out that Loblaws has an AMAZING selection of vegan/veggie products. A whole section called "Natural Value", especially the Glen Erin/Eglington store in Mississauga!

I'm 45 min North of Toronto in Aurora. Newmarket has Nature's Emporium which has all organic produce, and a bajillion vegan products. They also have hot and cold daily buffets, and a great bakery to get your sweet on. So good.

I'm dying to try out Fresh. After reading about it here I checked out their online menu, and it looks great. But, its a pretty big hike, and I'm home with little kids. Maybe when the weather gets nicer for strolling the city, my hubby and I will have to get a sitter and head down for lunch. Thanks for the recommendation.
