Any Kind Lifers in Indy or surrounding?
Hi Jenny, my husband and I are fellow "Kind Lifers" in the Bloomington, IN area. We have been vegetarians for a little over a year now and have recently become vegan.
Hi! I just recently became a vegan and moved to Indianapolis. Does anyone know of any good vegan friendly restaurants in Indy?
Unfortunately, I don't know of ANY strictly vegan restaurants in Indy. Broad Ripple Brewpub has some vegan selections and it's good stuff! I have noticed recently that more restaurants in general are adding vege options but not vegan. There is also another place in Broad Ripple -can't think of the name - something like 'my three sisters'....? They do have some vegan options. If I could I would open a vegan resturant in a heartbeat! It would be a popular place I'm sure. There are aLOT of people in Indy and surrounding areas - especially Noblesville, Carmel and Broad Ripple - that would take full advantage!
Thanks for the responses - it's neat to see people near me are interested in their health and that of animals :)
Hi, my wife and I are vegan and in Indy (Fishers).
Three Sisters is the restaurant that Jenny mentioned. We love a little Thai place called Thai Taste that is in a strip mall on 86th and Allisonville (close to Trader Joe's in Castleton), and they are vegan friendly and have a veggie/vegan dinner buffet that is highly popular (crowded) the first Thursday of every month. Yat's and Gumbo-A-GoGo are Cajun fast food restaurants that always have at least one vegan option. Gumbo-A-GoGo (86th and Ditch) usually has multiple options. The Indy Veggie Meetup group just had an outing to Broadripple Brewpub. I read that some pizza place in Broadripple just started offering a vegan pizza, but I haven't tried it yet.
We occassionally will swing by some other restaurants in Indiana when traveling, so there is Roots in Bloomington, Peaceful Greens in Lafayette, and the only ENTIRELY VEGAN restaurant we are aware of in Indiana, Loving Cafe in Fort Wayne. We posted about this one on our blog we were so excited about it:

Welcome to Indy! Nice to hear from everyone!
I'm in Fort Wayne. I 'm suprised Indy doesn't have more vegan options. I had wanted to go to R Bistro for quite a while as a vegetarian (always have veggie options and I wanted the darn cheese course
) however by the time it worked out for my sister and I to go I had become a vegan. I called ahead to see if there were any animal free options and they were very nice and said there would be a vegan meal on the menu (they change it weekly) when I came. Unfortunately, it was an indian dish and I was kind of disappointed (I'm not big on spices) but I would go again if they would have something more to my taste. It was very cool that they came up with roasted fruit (grapes, oranges, apples) sprinkled with pecans for me while my sister ordered a traditional dessert.
Bill, I just checked your blog out - love it! It's exciting to find other veges and vegans so close! I'm also a member of the Veggie Meetup Group though I've gone to zero meetups : / Anyway, thanks for the restaurant ideas as well!
Thanks for all the responses - love hearing there are like-minded people close by!
Hi, Jenny. Thanks for the kind words about the blog; we have a lot of fun with it! You should definitely try out a meetup. We went to the one last night and really enjoyed watching "The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill." It's on Netflix streaming if you have that. We just started going to the Meetups last month, but the activity in the group has picked up a lot, and it's always a chance to share some yummy food and meet like-minded people.
And for anyone reading this today, today (Saturday, Jan 29th) is a quasi-official new vegan holiday - Vegan Pizza day. Indy is actually one of four cities in the US with an organized Vegan pizza eating event if you want to go out to celebrate:

Hi everyone!! I am in Noblesville and vegan. I would like to find support and maybe someone to go out to eat with :)
Hi, Rachel! We'd be happy to share experiences (and food) with other Kind Lifers.
I thought I'd also share the website of the Indy Veggie Meetup group: http://www.meetup.com/indyveggie/. We've enjoyed their events, and you can always organize your own too. It's a group with a good mix of different ages and a good way to meet like minded people and now has a presence on Facebook too.
I also thought I'd share that we went to WB pizza for the Veggie Pizza Day, and they have clearly marked vegan options on their menu. I added them to Happy Cow so others could find them!
We were disappointed that Oprah wasn't shown yesterday due to the weather reports. For those that missed it, it was a show on being vegan. You can read about it and see some clips on her website.
