Hi everyone! I live in Speedway (near west side of downtown Indy). I'm also a member of the Veggie Meet up group and have gone to a few events with them...nice people! The Broad Ripple Brew Pub is the BEST vegan restaurant here by far! They have LOTS of options that are vegan and VERY good! The baked falafel is my favorite so far. I recently tried 3 Sisters. It's a little pricier, but good. So Italian is a restaurant in Brownsburg. It's not vegan, but I got a cheeseless pizza there (the stuffed veggie, hold the cheese) and it was SO good! By FAR the best cheeseless pizza I've had! The dough is soft and "doughy" with lots of veggies inside. They also make great breadsticks and will not put the butter on top if you request it. They were very accommodating for me both times I've been there. As for shopping, I shop at the Georgetown Market, near Pike Plaza/Georgetown Rd. and Lafayette Rd. (just south of the Lafayette Rd. exit off 65S, and just north of 38th St. on the west side). They are a great little store with lots of vegan items!!! Also, the price seems better than some other places I've been to and the people are great!
I've also thought about starting a 100% vegan restaurant. It would be amazing!! Glad to hear I'm not alone in those thoughts! And also really cool to find other Indy vegans on here! :-)
I was disappointed too about not getting to see Oprah! I did check her website out and saw the clips! Sarah, thanks for the pointers. I work around that area - haven't been to the Georgetown Market in forever - love to hear the prices seem better. I shop at Whole Foods now so I'll have to compare. Rachel - we may not be too far from each other - love to hear there is another veg lover so close!!!
This thread has been inactive for a while, but I thought I'd pop in: I just became vegan and I just moved to Indianapolis. I am looking for vegan eateries, places to buy tempeh and tofu, and people to cook/eat with. I live in the downtown area and have a bike, but no car. Anyone want to show a girl the Indy ropes?
Welcome to Indy, dearilou! I'm not that familiar with downtown groceries so I'll leave that to someone else. I haven't tried them yet, but there's a food truck that always has vegan options: http://www.duosindy.com/
Yats on Mass Ave. usually has a single vegan option. They have multiple vegetarian options, but most have milk in them, so I'd call before heading over to confirm. http://www.yatscajuncreole.com/
Haven't tried it yet but planning to very soon, the Earth House Collective has a coffee house with vegan menu: http://www.earthhousecollective.org/
That's all that's coming to mind right now, but you might try happycow and see what's near you. Again, welcome!
