Hand wash or dishwasher?

I've been wondering which is more eco-friendly.... handwashing dishes, or using the dishwasher? Either way, I use an environmentally friendly soap, and I've been doing some reading online that actually says the dishwasher uses less water. I always thought it was the other way around, and have been handwashing for that reason. But if the dishwasher is more eco-friendly, i'm all for it! haha. I HATE doing dishes! haha

I have also heard that the dishwasher (newer models) use much less water than handwashing, but I wash depending on the size of my load. If I just made something small for my fiance and me, and we only use like, one plate or bowl each and I don't have a lot that I cooked with, I handwash, but if I made a meal that used a lot of dishes and such I use the dishwasher, because I'm sure I probably use more water with a big load of dishes!

I usually cook 3 meals a days, as I am a stay at home mom to my 14 month old, and we ditched the microwave about 6 or 7 months ago, so unfortunately I have a lot of dishes everyday:( I can never seen to keep up! Even with the dishwasher.. haha. I'll be happy whn he is old enough to eat sanwiches and raw veggies! haha

What about dishsoap? I can't seem to find any earth friendly dishsoap for handwashing or dishwasher. I wonder if I could rinse my dishes and just wash them in the dishwasher without soap?

I have heard that instead of using a rinse additive you can use vinegar. I am going to try it next time my dishwasher runs out. I have been using vinegar in my washing machine as softener and it works really well.

Dr. Bronners is amazing and earth-friendly soap...and it's so multi-purpose, you can use it for everything from washing clothes to cleaning dishes!

Eco-friendly cleaning solutions reduce risks associated with indoor cleaning products. A truly clean home is free from dirt and grime, and it is safe from hazardous chemicals. Some chemicals in today's commercial cleaning products could be restricted in the future if scientists uncover long-term dangers.
