Struggling Mostly Vegan in Baltimore Suburb

We have been what I call "mostly Vegan" for a little over a year now and we love it (kids are tough though). I agree with it, I feel way better when i am doing it. Its the right thing. But since November I have been on a slippery slope down. Not really eating too much animal products, although some are slipping in, just eating way too much and too much junk. I have gained probably 8 pounds maybe more I am scared to get on the scale. And I cant get back. The lack of routine and kids out for snow is killing me. Is anyone in the area. I need people in my life who eat this way. Hopefully if I can connect with someone local I can get back on. I am starting to feel really terrible, having trouble sleeping, digestive issues, my face is broken out. And the weight. HELP!
Oh, no! Shelby, that sounds awful! I am truly sorry to hear you are feeling that way. The good news is that you do know how to fix it. --most people don't even know that much! Unfortunately, I am not in your area, but one thing I use that has helped me to connect with vegans in my area is a website called, meetup.com. Have you heard of it? I would just use your zip code and pop the key word vegan in there. I'm sure there are at least 3-5 in your area. I live in L.A. so of course there are zillions.
Also, I don't know if this will help you but it helps me to remind myself why I eat the way I do especially when I am tempted. It's so easy to just throw your hands up when you are out or everyone else you are with is eating tons of animal products. Whether your reasoning is ethical, environmental or your health I when I am having a difficult time I remind myself of that every time before I put something in my mouth. I simply say to myself, is this really what I want to be doing? Is it going to make me happy? Is it right? Will I regret it later? ETC.
I am a physician so I tend to look at things from a health perspective and I can honestly say that you are moving in the right direction. The fact that you are here reaching out is proof of that! So, try not to be so hard on yourself --i know, easier said than done but truly you have a plan and you'll find support here (and probably from meetup) and that is a phenomenal start! A plant-based diet is the best thing for your health, hands down not to mention the weight! I wish I could fly you to L.A. but since I can't if you need a friend and some support please do not hesitate. Best Wishes and Kindest Regards, Jenna (www.theplantrx.com)
