YES!!! I live in College Station! Wow and for some reason I was reading Alicia's blogs from the last couple of days when I thought about checking the Kind Connections since I hadn't in a while! I have a hard time finding some vegan items at the groceries here and usually have to go to Kroger for things, HEB for others, and sometimes go to Village Foods. I like the Rice Dream Organic Original but notice it's cheaper at CS Walmart or HEB instead of Kroger. We went to Whole Food in Austin to get nutritional yeast since both HEBs here in CS quit carrying it! Where do you live and shop?

Awesome!! I also live in CS, for almost 4 years now. I do the same thing as well and shop at different stores for different items, HEB, Kroger, Village Foods, Farm Patch. The Brazos Natural Food Store carries nutritional yeast, I can't get enough of that stuff! I did not know that CS Walmart carried Rice Dream, that is good to know. I too go to the Whole Foods in Austin at least once a month, it's my favorite thing to do, I know that makes me sound like a nerd but I love going there.

I started writing a blog for the Eagle a few months ago called 'Vegan in the Valley'. I dont write in there as often as I would like, because I have two other jobs to attend to, but I felt it was necessary for me. So far, I've had nothing but postive reactions to it despite the reactions I get when someone finds out that I'm a vegan. Here a link if you would like to check it out: http://www.theeagle.com/blogs/veganinthevalley/?plckController=Blog&plckScript=blogScript&plckElementId=blogDest&plckBlogId=Blog:78a5c76d-23da-497c-9647-170768f6b3d8&plckBlogPage=Blog&plckCurrentPage=0&sid=sitelife.theeagle.com

Wow! I too have several jobs (3 to be exact!:)) and am sorry I am so terribly late to see your reply to my Dec. response! That is wonderful that you write for the Eagle and I had actually read your blog just recently! Loved it and also the recipes! I will have to post a bunch of my recipes here on my profile!

Yeah CS, is a funny place, many here are still "living in the past," and I've also even heard it called "meat-ville" by other veggie bloggers. I have older siblings here and my mom still lives here too. (So I see some of this, quite often around me.) smiley-wink.gifAnd yeah I have received almost every reaction conceivable from people here when I mention I'm vegan. Many are polite and curious, but some are immediately defensive or even angry, even when I try to be careful not to offend or as casual as possible about it! (And I'm talking about people in my own family and even workplace acquaintances.) I respect everyone and their diet, because I used to eat the standard American diet too. Many can eat literally anything and still feel fine and keep a healthy weight. It's just as I got older I decided to start taking much better care of myself and for me diet is everything. I'm a UT grad and am currently trying to get back into teaching after a couple years of hiatus. No such luck lately as the districts here are basicly hiring very few teachers. I work part-time at A&M, substitute teach, and wait tables to make do though. smiley-smile.gif
