I am wanting to atleast go vegan for a month and see how it does for me. I would like to be healthier, have more energy, happier and lose wieght. I think this would be a good thing to get all of that. I have been doing a lot of research and I was wondering is soda ok to drink if you are vegan? I drink a lot of coke and I am not sure if I could give it up. So I was just wondering if coke was vegan and where is the best place to find out if something is?

I think it is. If you are looking to get healthy and lose weight you really should stop drinking it. Nothing about it is good for you. When i was younger I used to drink it all the time. Now i hate the taste.

I agree with hb. I believe Coke is vegan, but if your goal is to be happier, healthier, lose weight, and have more energy, and you drink a lot of Coke as you say, giving it up is going to have a big effect on everything you listed. Ultimately, the choice is up to you, but you may be surprised to discover the effects if you give it up entirely.

lol I know everybody I know has told me for years to give it up, but I just love it!! I would like to cut down because it is unhealthy, but when I go vegan I would still like to atleast be able to have a coke. Thanks for your answers.

o I share your problem! I can get up to 3 or 4 a day on a fairly regular basis and its killing me but I am literally addicted! I quit for a month thinking after that I could just cut back but its like alcohol or something (i dunno i don't drink!) Planning on quitting again this summer but we shall see how that goes!

It is addictive, because of the sugar. Check out some of the threads about sugar on here, maybe you'll get some ideas to help you at least cut back. Also, giving up caffeine and allowing your body to adjust can actually give you more energy. The combo of sugar and caffeine in soda is addictive and damaging to your overall health. It's one thing if you can allow yourself to have one and see it as a treat, like once a month at the theater or something, but very often is not good at all. Perhaps try reducing first, by substituting with hot or iced tea half the time, or try carbonated (or even regular) water with fruit in it, to give you some fizz and sweetness without the caffeine and sugar. Good luck. I know it's not an easy thing at all, but that's why you might want to really try to cut back - something that makes you feel like you need it even when you know it's not good for you, can't be good for you!

if you want to be healthier, have more energy, be happier and loose weight in my opinion just eliminating animal products (going vegan) isn't going to do that much. Stopping drinking soda will. Been there. Done that. Was so addicted I would get up in the middle of the night to have a can of coke! Please realize that if you can not stop doing something, your body is addicted to it. That is very very bad. It is hard, but you can stop. I did - believe you me, if I could you can! I just don't want you to go vegan for the month and then have little to no results and say "this is crap - being vegan does nothing!" - it does. But putting all of that sugar and chemicals into your body goes a long way toward decreasing any positive effects of a vegan (or any ) diet!

Hi Colleen, I too am an addict and have been trying to give up forever, but its truely an addiction. As far as I know, coke is vegan. However, I haven't found out how the sugar that they use is processed. That would be important to find out, since typical white sugar is highly processed, and sometimes (used to be more often I think? Not sure how much this process is still used) bones of animals are burned to make charcol and used in the bleaching process of sugar.

Coke is definately vegan. To be honest, it's the only way I've gotten through my first week of cutting out dairy! I'm gonna play devil's advocate here, even though I definately get where everyone else is coming from. I'm having a really tough time, and being able to have something as normal as a Coke while everything else I eat is unfamiliar is really comforting! If you can find it, get Kosher or Mexican Coke-- it uses real sugar rather than high fructose corn syrup and tastes ten times better. The best Coke I ever had was in Spain-- Coke may be the American beverage, but for some reason, other countries do it better!

However, health aside, Coke is far from a "kind" company for the environment or other people (bottling plants have been known to sap local water sources in some of the poorest areas in India and other places). Just something to keep in mind! Though, I am not trying to make you feel bad about it; that would be very hypocritical. I just think the info is important. We might not be at a place to give it up now, but as veganism becomes more normal to our bodies, I think it will be easier to quit those comforts.
