Hi, my name is Amber. I am from Cincinnati and just joined here. I have been a devoted vegetarian for about 5 yrs. now and have recently transitioned to a vegan lifestyle. There are practically zero vegans around here in Cincinnati (that I know, at least), nor does anyone around me seem to care at all about the environment or their health. It's a little annoying to me at times when I'm at the grocery store with my re-usable bag buying soy milk and tofu while those around me are loading up on meat and dairy products, not thinking anything of it. Anyway, I came here to hopefully connect with others who are also vegan and on a similar level. Hope to get involved in some cool discussions. =)

Good for you Amber, Keep it up. I too, live in omnivore territory. I find it tough, but worth it when someone is truely interested and wants to talk about my lifestyle. I may not have turned anyone vegan, but many of my friends are much more open to it.

Thanks for making me feel so welcome! I have joined the Meetup for vegans in Cincy but have not been able to make it to any of the activities yet. And, yes, Jungle Jim's is awesome, when I can actually make it out to there. I'm lucky, though, because I know someone who works there so sometimes she'll get me stuff (like ingredients to make hummus) with her discount. Actually, Kroger has stepped up in regards to providing for vegans, too. They have a whole section (called Nature's Market) that offers a lot of products for vegans and they have sales pretty often as well as offering coupons. I have also found a few good restaurants, mostly in Northside or Clifton, that offer vegan options. Melt is awesome. They actually advertise themselves as being vegan-friendly and have amazing food served in a fun, artistic atmosphere. They also use 90% biodegradable or recyclable packaging, which is also really cool. Now I just need to get more of my friends to agree to go there.
