Thanks, Herbie/fellow Rebecca.

I had 5 bites of Indian paneer last night (I know because each one felt weird.) But late last night I stopped feeling dizzy for the first time in a month. So who knows...I think I will try to keep as vegan as I can and try adding back just a little bit of dairy (of course, making every effort to have it be responsible.) I am fortunate to live near a community farmer's market, so can actually speak to the person that milked the cow that morning. Gotta love NYC and our obsession with local food. =)

Thanks again for everyone's input. I think I needed to hear from like-minded people about this issue. It helped me gain a little clarity.

let me share some facts about dairy to help you understand that dairy is lethal

THE TRUTH ABOUT DAIRY

* 1982 in the Journal of Digestive Disease research was published showing a marked increase risk of Ovarian Cancer, organ damage, infertility, and cataracts with the consumption of dairy.

* 1985 Another study published in The American Journal of clinical Nutrition clearly showed that people who drank 3 (8oz) glasses of milk increased their calcium LOSS by 17 mg. ...A DAY

* 1992 in the 7th edition to his book, Dr. Benjamin Spock stated studies linking childhood anemia to milk consumption.

* 1992 New England Journal of medicine published a study showing that 100% of diabetic children tested showed high levels of antibodies to dairy.

* 1994 the American Academy of Pediatrics reported that 90 studies had been completed that directly linked milk to the development of diabetes.

* 1997 Researchers at Harvard (funded by The National Institute for health ) published a gold standard, peer reviewed, journal documented ( in the American Journal of Public Health ) study that clearly showed that women who consume dairy (550mg daily) have TWICE the rate of hip fractures

* 1997 World Cancer Research and the American Institute for Cancer Research reported that Cancer risks paralleled milk consumption.

* 1999 an article in The Journal of the National Cancer Institute shows a that Casein ( dairy ) stimulates the growth of Cancer cells.

* 2005 A study reported in "Pediatrics Journal" states " There is very LITTLE evidence (if any ) to support the claims that milk helps children develop strong bones They found NO relationship between consuming dairy and bone health

Yale University authored a study summarizing data on dairy intake and hip fracture rate. The conclusion was that 70% of the fracture rates were directly attributable to the consumption of Casein ( milk ) intake

* The Physicians committee for responsible medicine, led by renowned Dr. Neal Barnard states this about dairy" It would be hard to imagine a worse vehicle for delivering calcium to the human body "

( humans were never meant to consume dairy from another species)

stay VEGAN, your life depends on it!

Just to mention: Using fish and fecundated egg is still a responsible way more than turkey and beef, pork.

Did you know: Milk cleanses the body!?

Thank you for posting that, Kerry. For more information about the detrimental aspects of dairy, read The China Study. If you choose not to be vegan, if your choice was not ethically-based, it's important to keep in mind that in terms of health, dairy is not a healthy food. While I stand by what I have said, I don't personally understand such choices for ethical or health reasons, I do believe it is better to reduce consumption if that is all you can do, rather than continuing to consume 'normal' amounts just because you think if you can't do it all the way why do it at all. Reduction is better than nothing. I would just say - ask yourself why you want to do so - is it emotional, mental, are you missing something essential from your diet? I think Tania Katherine made some good points to consider. In the end, while it may not be the healthiest choice to consume dairy, eating a small amount is better for the animals than a large amount, but I don't know if the detrimental health aspects are reduced proportionately.

And I'm sorry, but I do not believe dairy cleanses the body! It's formulated for baby cows, just as breast milk is formulated for human babies.

Using fish is also not more responsible environmentally than eating other animals, it's massively destructive to the environment and to small fisheries and individual fishermen. Ocean fish can contain mercury, and the increasing levels of microscopic bits of plastic in the ocean are likely to be consumed by more fish as the particles spread throughout the ocean. Farmed fish are inreasingly fed corn, of all things! And that's likely GMO corn.

If you have backyard chickens that you really care for - great, eat their eggs, not all of them would be fertilized, but foul are treated even worse and have less protection than all other farmed animals, and their protection is nearly nonexistent.

Just thought it might give you some ideas about what to search for, not necessarily answer your questions. I'm not sure there's much of anything 'independent' anymore, considering funding sources. As an aside, I saw a documentary a while back, I'll have to try and find the name of it, in which a doctor had found studies about the curing effects of - I want to say vitamin C, but I can't remember if that's right - but it was something 'natural' that cured, and studies had been published decades ago, and the articles were only available in the archives, which weren't available to anyone off the street. Yes, studies can be found to support just about anything, but in many cases in our society, money drives what information is accessible to the public and to a large extent money drives the policy made in our country. Unfortunately, sometimes these things are to the detriment of the very people who vote these people into office and who put money into those pockets.
