I received some Barnes & Nobles gift certificates for x-mas. Thought I might buy some new cookbooks and wanted some recommendations. I've been vegetarian for 20 yrs, so I have a TON of those, but being vegan only year, I have The Kind Diet, McDougall Quick & Easy, Skinny Bitch. So what are your faves (specifically a baking one) and maybe ones that would appeal to my husband, he has been vegetarian for a week now!!! This is a shock of shocks and I will have to tell you all about it in another post, because he was a BIG meat eater. It will give hope to all of you with meat eating partners. Thanks for your help :)
Appetite for Reduction, Veganomicon, Vegan Meals for One or Two (great for small portions), are some of my faves.
I love Veganomicon and the dessert books Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World and their cookie one too! Yum!
Color Me Vegan and The Vegan Table are awesome, and obviously The Kind Diet! :)
for baking, this is very good: The 100 Best Vegan Baking Recipes: Amazing Cookies, Cakes, Muffins, Pies, Brownies and Breads by Kris Holechek
I am obsessed with cookbooks!!! Current faves listed below - the links will take you to Amazon where you can read other reviews on the books and have a peek at some for contents and index:
Veganomicon
Vegan with a Vengance
Clean Food
All good books with interesting, creative and delicious recipes!
Buon appetito!
The Kind Diet
Veganomicon
Appetite for Reduction
Anything about Vegan Baking
"Vegan Planet" by Robin Robertson rocks -- 400 recipes, all with ingredients that are common to most kitchens....and comes in paperback....
My favorites are Vegan Bites by Beverly Lynn Bennett, which I think is geared more toward college kids but they have lots of great recipes that are only 1 or 2 servings. Lots of basic recipes. I also love Vegan on the Cheap by Robin Robertson, lots of recipes with just basic ingredients plus she gives you a price breakdown and most of the recipes are like $1-$2 a serving.
as far as baking, the joy of vegan baking by colleen patrick-goudreau is awesome...has every type of dessert you ever need.....and i agree with other posters that isa chandra moskowitz's books are great (veganomicon, appetite for reduction, etc.)
